255/45/18 tire suggestions

I just picked up a set of 2007 gt500 wheels for my crown Vic. They're 18 x 9.5 all around. The front tires on the are badly cupped and need replacing. Looking for a reasonably priced tire in the 255/45/18 size.

I'd like to stay under $150 or so each, I've found tires from $97 to $160 or so. The choices right now I'm looking at were the Goodyear eagle f1 Supercar, same as what's on there now for $162 each, radial gt champiros uhp1 for $97 each and also found the nitto nt555 at $160 each.

I drive the car about 5-7k miles a year, and it gets snow tires so I don't need them to be used year round just spring and summer. Leaning towards the champiros and eventually getting something nicer.

Any input is appreciated.

My current favorite summer tire is the Continental ExtremeContact DW. They are a max performance summer tire and avaialble in the 255-45 size. Right now I don't have them in that size I have them in the now discontiuned 275-45 on the rear and plan to go ahead and get the 255-45 for the front in the near future. Unfortunately they are a little more than you were planning on spending. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...R8ECDWXL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes But you talk about getting some cheapo tires now and upgrading to better tires in a while. Why not just pony up the extra money now, not compromise the car's abilities, and save some money in the long run.

Yeah, buying cheapo tires and expecting to get something nicer down the road isn't realistic. Who changes tires that aren't worn or dried out?

Well I went to discount tire today and placed the order, the cheap champiros weren't all that cheap they wanted $145 each for them, so I looked the the other options and they had bfg gforce comp 2s and Yokohama advan sports for $146 and $147.

They couldn't find the bfgs locally or close by at one of their suppliers so went with the Yokohamas based on their reccomendations and some other input from guys running them on their gt500 wheels. Supposed to come in next week, so I'll post pictures and input on them once they arrive.

Thanks for the replies and help.

I've been known the change what many people would consider perfectly serviceable tires on a vehicle I just purchased because they were a cheapo brand or inappropriate for how I drive. Now buying cheap new tires with the plan on replacing them no way. If I was really in a budget crunch I'd go used tires from a quality mfg over cheapos any day of the week.

That makes no sense they are Discount Tire and they can order them from their own warehouses and have them there in a couple of days tops.

I was told the warehouses weren't showing any and it would be atleast a week or so before he could probably get them, asked about the Yokohamas and he said he could order them as the warehouse had them and would be here by Monday.

I put these on my bmw http://www.continentaltire.ca/www/tires_ca_en/themes/pcar/allseason/extremecontact_dws_en.html

they are amazing, I drive on the freeways in detroit at speeds I cant talk about, these things have not let me down. They are also amazing in the snow. belle tire for $760 out the door, 18's, i think they are 265, ill report back in the morning.

I hate it when I find an interesting thread, but then the people posting in it just gave up on it.

'07-'09 GT500s are the same wheels I'm running, and I just stuck with stock size (255/45ZR18 & 285/40ZR18) Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars. Get the the Supercars. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

I love the GT500 wheels. I originally wanted those but was worried they wouldn't fit in the front. The only size of them I found is 18x9.5. Could you post a couple photos of them on the car?

Mickey Thompson is making big wheel size tires. They have mild to sticky tires Z rated and better. I am going to get 4 tires. For the Summer coming. And put my original BFG G-Force tires away. There are alot of companies with makes for our 18 wheels. It is worth checking them all out. And checking the pros and cons of them all.
