Ct is trying to pass a new Bill that will do a 400% increase on Antique Cars

The answer is here, a/k/a MOB RULE; "This 400% tax increase focuses on one percent of the population"
 
It starts with 1% then migrates it's ugly head up to 20% then it's " it's only 45% of the population". Once it starts. It will not stop!! Duh!!

Why should I or the richest man in the country have to pay for others who choose not to do the right thing and be a productive human being. Where does it stop!! Why should I work X amount of hours in all kinds of weather just so some asshat can sit in his/her apartment playing PS3 and crapping out 6 future worthless kids that I will be paying for too? There is nothing you can say that is right to defend these Bozos!!

I have an idea. Since you are ok with it. You pay it for others too!!

It's the fruition of the democratic ideal. Years ago, pick a minority group, build them in numbers by keeping them down but continue to have them grow, then when they are actually the statistical majority, back them entirely through legislation attacking the old "majority".

Complete power over an enormous voter base in poverty, regular kings of the trash pile.

One of the three top reasons I left Ct. when I retired was the taxes and high cost of living. I paid almost $1,000 a year in property taxes on my Marauder alone...were the roads better? Hahahahaha! Here in NC I pay $100 a year. The other two reasons were the traffic and weather.
 
The most intelligent reply to this subject is "poo poo on you you" If you want to raise taxes to support the poor,move to a socialist regime or just wait around for a few years and you'll be in one...:rolleyes:
 
Are you sure its CT and not NYS???? Sounds like something the Off Brothers in Albany would come up with. We have more taxes, fees, ect than any state in the nation. Then the powers that be can not figure out why NY is hemmoraging population. We are outta here too, its just a matter of timing at this point.

This has been circulating the internet since April and just had a small write-up in Hagerty's Magazine!
 
^^No, it's really real for real....although the regular session of the General Assembly wrapped last Wednesday at midnight and the last action taken on HB5580 was April 7th...so unless the Gov calls for a special session (he probably won't since all his major items made it) I'm not sure we'll hear more on this just for now...

By now, most have heard about the Shelby American Automobile Club’s annual April Fool’s prank that went viral. The article about Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York proposing a federal tax on specialty automobiles spread like wildfire through the hobby.
Everyone was relieved that the SAAC article turned out to be a hoax and, on a more positive note, it was great to see how strong the hobby “emergency response” grapevine is coast-to-coast. Wouldn’t it be great if real threats like this one coming out of Connecticut got the same outpouring of concern?
Connecticut Targets Historic Vehicle Owners
The Connecticut State Legislature is actively considering a bill targeted at “collector car” owners that would result in a 400-percent tax increase on the personal property taxes paid for antique vehicles. This move would raise the personal property tax cap from $500 to $2500 for each registered antique car.
The proposed tax increase would apply to registered antique vehicles that are 30 years or older. If a vehicle is registered as a regular driver and not registered as an antique then no property tax cap would apply and the increase could be even greater.


The negative impacts of this proposed tax in HB 5580 are as follows:
  • This 400-percent tax increase focuses on one percent of the population, potentially causing an antique vehicle owner to pay more vehicle tax than property tax for their home.
  • This attempt to raise $2,000,000 for local municipalities could potentially cost the state money through deferred registration of antique vehicles where people are tempted to register their cars in other states or sell their antique vehicles outright.
  • Nationally, antique car owners spend 35 billion dollars each year and donate more than $59 million to charitable organizations. Connecticut car clubs host hundreds of events each year and support for these events, charities and local business revenue could suffer or completely disappear. Fewer antique cars would have a negative overall economic impact in the State of Connecticut.

You are correct, yet this subject has popped up quite a few times over the years. The CGA even has reviewed the subject of MV taxes every year.
This year they had the forementioned HB 5580,
HB 6102: Which called for a more accurate assessment of Motor Vehicles to reflect their true value (Hint: aimed right at the same subject) and my favorate,
SB 596 which by the way also fell flat in session, To Eliminate Motor Vehicle property tax :)
Every year they try to come up with better ways to get $$

It's like our government wants to take the worst parts about living in every other country on earth and wrap them up in one package. Socialist tendencies, extreme corruption and scandal, croneyism, a taxing plan that would make even the British jealous, etc...
