Last I checked. It's not too hard to not loose your license. All it takes is responsibility and a little more resposibility. Pretty easy concept.

Too bad the exowner isn't on this site. I'd tell him the exact same thing. I've told people I personally know that they are for sure winners (yeah right) when they have lost their license.

Driving is a responsible privilage. Not a given right!!

In Michigan...

In Michigan we have "No Fault" insurance. Every state has differing motor vehicle laws. We need uninsured motorist coverage to protect our vehicles in a collision that isn't our fault.

Our state has become tough on uninsured motorists. If you are driving and forgot your wallet, or don't have proof of insurance with you, I believe you get fined (even if you actually are insured). We have a large immigrant population who are notorious for driving without coverage, which does increase costs to the legitimate drivers.

I read a local paper that pictures offenders & charges against them. The typical arrest involves DUI (driving under influence), and no insurance (and/or suspended license). Drunks like to blame everyone but themselves. I say book 'em, and beat 'em if they resist. Yes, I am not a bleeding heart liberal.
 
I had my car towed because of a barely visible written sign almost torn off a tree that said no parking etc..and I missed it. I came out and car gone, no one knew where it went, called all the tow yards and everything, I thought it was stolen. I had to wait for the car to arrive at the yard before they could confirm it was towed. I found it, show up and I am treated like a complete criminal by the company...for no reason. Also, it was less than two hours did they have the car and it was $180 plus the no parking citation..

And I would rather give someone the benefit of the doubt on whether or not the owner is a total degenerate....I don't blame you for thinking they are automatically scum because they are associated with being arrested and having car towed with the way the world is now, but that is part of what's wrong with the country. Reminds me of don't speak to someone as if they are a gentleman because they are, but do so because you are.

If you are volunteering dollars, then I accept. I was planning on using only my own but it is good to see there are others who try to see the good without judging.

That is also know as a "relocate". I drove for three different companies over the years for short stints (money sucks!) And when I worked for Quickies 2 that was one of our main incomes. We would receive a call from the property owners and send out three trucks and swoop in, grab, and leave the lot faster than DOOM buying tires..

Helpfull tip of the day. Trust the signs that say "Towing provided by *****"

More helpfull tip of the day. If you do see it getting towed, get that truck to STOP however possible BEFORE your front bumper hits the property line! It is state law that they have to GIVE it back to you for FREE, IF you stop them in time..

You see, a block before we roll in, we prep our trucks and assign a car to a truck depending on how its parked or what kind of car it is, fly in like like we own they joint, snatch and grab. We don't strap them down till off the property. Must admit it was fun as hell at first, then mixed emossions/ feeling bad, but back to thinking "just a job", especially when they come to pay the fee's and treat you like scum, even though they were the ones in the wrong.. The fee's? Keep in mind the equipment used, maintanance, fuel, yard, 24 hr's of employees. Honestly, these fee's barely keep the lights on.

Sorry this happened to you, a good guy, who didn't see the sign ( on purpose from the tow company probably...) most people just abuse the system and make us out to be the criminal.

Ok so the tow company wants their fee for towing. What is that towing fee perhaps $150.00 - $300 tops

The car should be sent to auction. Sold. $300 goes to towing company, remainder to owner.

How is a $300 tow job worth a whole car?

All cases are different, but I saw many cases where people would just abandon a vehicle. Trying to contact them is often futile and the tow company gets stuck with a pile of junk usually. Towing can be a lucrative business if you can get on the 911 Center's rotation. Provided you don't mind going out in all kinds of weather at all hours of the night and like to argue with people. I personally know two operators who got out of the business because they were sick of dealing with people who had been legally towed, but just don't get it. Even after being towed for the same reason, numerous times. :shake:
 
storage fees

It isn't just the towing fee, they also charge daily storage fees.

They have to pay for the lights, heat, A/C, maintenance, mortgage, property taxes, license fees, wrecker expense, social security, payroll, lawyer, accountant, the list goes on and on and on...

Sorry, I was using the term in the definitive not the derogatve. Unbundle your tighty whities...

And, ummm, driving without a license is NOT a small thing. Driving is a privelige - not a right. To knowingly drive on a suspended/revoked license shows complete disregard for the law. It does happen once in a while a person drives not knowing, however this is not that. There were many more issues here. A person doesn't get arrested just for driving on a suspension.

Conditions of the contract. ie: If you rent a storage unit, don't pay, they auction your stuff - not just for the back rent.

There has to be the threat of catastrophic loss or a major segment of people would not pay knowing they did not stand to lose or could make it up at their convenience. It may surprise you but not everyone is honest & responsible.
 
as of dec.5 to car belong to my boss. the lein action date came and gone and the state sent a new title in the company name! so the car last owner never came back to claim the car after removing a few items out of the truck and back seat. i decieded that i didnt want to have anything to do with owning the car but he did have me go thur it and make sure that everything works on it. first thing was detailed the engine bay cleaned the inside and the truck and fix the driver power seat, both back windows.and the a/c blower. after washing it she came out looking real nice.she has 144k and run and drives good, my boss is asking 6500,or O.B.O and has a aftermarket viper alarm already installed. and to anwser for justbob in Florida it dosent matter if your on the property or off there is a drop fee to release someone car if it is hook up and lift off the ground either by a wheel lift, wrecker,or flatbed the vehical owner still has to pay the drop fee which on the property is only half of th impound fee but if its off property its full price. so not all states have the same laws lelating to towing.
