Emissions trouble

Marauder failed to communicate with emissions station, even on stock tune. I tested the car two years ago and passed with Lidio tune on it. Nothing has changed, any ideas on why the systems are not turning on and reading for the emissions or scan tools at shop?
Thanks in advance

Did Lid flash your PCM or do you have a chip?

If it's a chip, I had the same issue in MA a few years ago. The state changed their software and I had to get a special cable from Lidio...works like a charm now. Was only like $15 or something cheap like that...call him.

They changed the emission software in Illinois July 1. Looking for oxygen sensors that are turned off in the tune. Call Lidio.

Did you drive and "cycle" after restoring the stock tune?

Here's a link

Try ANYTHING turned off in the tune! I don't have a single thing supported, eight trans codes permanently turned off, and the build removed from my blinking OD light. Yup, I'm screwed as of 10/31...

z pointed me to some mil eliminators that should mimick the back 02 sensors. Dont know why you could not buy 4 of them and run them to give you the o2 sensors. There not real expensive $60 for two. I went on svt and I believe they only want to see the back 02's and the cats showing. Will double check and let you know if I make it or not.

If not I will change my insurance to show car/race car -get an insurance policy showing limited miles allowed and apply for the exemption. If you show them the policy they will allow exemptions from what I understand.

Where there's a will their is a way :)

The MIL eliminators for the rear O2 sensors need the front O2 sensors to work. The computer is looking for the rear sensors to trail the front sensors in their response and at a lower amplitude.

It's all on the wording on your dec page if they accept it. It used to state show car - limited to 3,500 annual miles.

Now it states show car - limited only to and from shows, no mileage constraints. I.E. out of state? No problem.

Race car - uninsurable for road use..

Like I said its all in how your agent words the proof you provide if they accept it.

My state farm agent is already on stand by for show car valued at $30,000 coverage for a measly $164/every 6 month policy. But If it states only to shows and I get pulled over at midnight or worse yet in an accident, it gives the insurance company an automatic out. That doesn't make me very comfortable. On the other hand, if it doesn't have that in the wording, IL.'s website says you will be denied..

Face it, yes there is work arounds, but they can come to a great risk to your coverage. Fact remains, IL is getting smart..

Returned to stock and put the starts and run time on it, even the shop is stumped, these guys are not put there. He fears that since car was used when I bought it, might have had a tune done already. Does any one have a link to, or no where I Can find a stock tune for the vehicle so I can save some dough on having it brought in by Ford dealer? Thanks. Calling Lidio tomorrow.

Just filed for a 4 month extension. Tried the mil eliminators and turned the 02's on in the tune and still failed! :( Trying to go with show car exemption with the state. Will see how that works out :)

My policy allows me to drive to and from shows so I presume if I am traveling at 12 midnight and I get in an accident I am covered.

If this does not work then I am going to give the car to my dad and have him register it to his' summer house in Wisconsin. I guess I will have to get Wisconsin plates but what else can you do? I could also sell it and buy a Grand National and trick it out ....hmmmm.

Believe me I feel for you.

I failed emissions in Mass and it's worse than a fail, I have to get cleared by a Mass Motorist Assist Center. When I went there, all hell broke lose.
At the end of the day to get registered, I have to remove the long tube headers, put the OEM manifolds on and the front Cats.

Oh but that's not all, once done and have to have it re dyno'd, retuned, and remove the MAFia in line tuner.

Then I have to go back to the MMAC, get cleared Bd then retest it.

The only good news is I found a reputable tuner in Louden New Hsmpshire that guarantees a tune to pass in Mass

So I drive out to Coastal Customs today and ordered all the parts for the exhaust, I go back on Thursday to get the work done. The front CATs ordered are CARB approved hi flo out of California

It's a pain in the arse. The MMAC guy says it's probably a matter of about 5 years before they make it all but impossible for modded cars to pass. The good news is by then Marauders will be 15 years old and exempt

I dont really think they will be exempt. The 1996's are still being tested (first year to plug in obdII) and my truck has to go every other year. Anything that has the plug in might be subject to the tests indefinitely.....which will suck!

My F250 is exempt. Any heavy dury truck over 8,000lbs (I think) and 2007 or older are exempt:)

And Mike Post at Dynotune MP told a few of us a couple of weeks ago that he has found a way to pass Illinois emissions.

^^^ Really! I'm somewhat relieved now...

Mike told us that he has talked to Tim about it. So Tim should know.

Hell, Mike even showed us how he does it on the computer. I'm thinking I will probably just get my car redyno tuned. But have it done by Mike. Super cool and explains everything in detail to you.

I had Mike data log my car for me a few weeks back and Brandon has been trying to dyno tune his car there. (But his car is fighting him every step of the way.)
