Places to stay in Downtown ATL?

I'm headed down that way for a George Strait concert on March 22 (anyone else going??) at the Phillips Arena. Most likely coming down that morning and staying the night, although I may come down friday evening and do the Walking Dead tour or something. Regardless, as far as hotels downtown, is there anywhere really good or to avoid? I'll probably have the MM, so garage parking isn't a big deal if need be. I'm looking in the under $150 or so per night range at this point, although may change if a group decides to come. Any help is greatly appreciated

I have stayed in the ATL jail. Rooms are small, food OK, room mate was mean. The plus side is they give you cloths to wear.

The objective is to avoid meeting the locals in such a way

The Omni looks good, and I like the fact I can walk to the arena, this one is a definite possibility. FWIW, is there anywhere in that vicinity that doesn't charge for parking? Granted if I can keep MM parked and walk to the concert that is a BIG plus...

You ALWAYS pay to park in downtown Atlanta.
I remember years ago I parked on the street and a nice young man offered to watch my car for $5. I had just put coins in the meter and said "no thanks, I'm good"

I'm still looking for that car..........................

May also want to consider finding a hotel near a MARTA station. Take the train to Phillips and have free parking and rates may be cheaper.

The cheetah club. They will kick you out every morning to clean sniffers row, but you can get back in after noon....
