Spoiler Cracked!!!

We had a particularly brutal winter in Indy, and I guess it took a victim. My spoiler cracked in two spots, almost symmetrically. Both cracks are on the outer edges, on the underneath side, about six inches in from the ends. The cracks are not all the way through, the top of the spoiler was spared. My options I guess are buy an aftermarket spoiler and hope/pray it isn't crap and the mounting points are the same, or ask my body guy if he can plastic weld and refinish it. Or finding a Ford spoiler in some old dusty dealership corner... Has anyone ever had one plastic welded before? Are they ABS plastic or plastic/fiberglass? Kind of irritated now, because I just got the ok from the wife to put a windshield in the car, from it having that nice sandblasted patina from 94k highway miles, but now the spoiler is on my nerves. (I'm OCD pretty bad, I just spent almost an hour straightening the exhaust tips on the wife's Challenger because they weren't perfect). :mad2: So, plastic weld or try to replace??? Thanks for opinions and ridicule in advance. :beer:
 
before you pay for a windshield, call your insurance company, some will cover it because its cheaper to replace it so you could see than the collision repair from you running into something because you couldn't see.
 
I posted this a few months ago. This has happened to 4 of the 5 we have. Comparing the old to the new, it seems the spoilers actually shrink and flatten out. The outter ends will start to pull away from the trunk lid and then the crack happens. It seems the colder temperatures influence it, but colder out here in the desert is in the high 20's at night.

The crack is right where a metal reenforcement was molded inside the spoiler for the attaching bolts.

Didn't bother to try and fix them, just got new unpainted ones and had a body shop paint them for $100 each.

By the way, that double sided tape sticks pretty good, even after 10 years. I took a sharp knife and held it away from the truck lid and slowly cut the tape until I could peel the spolier away. Don't forget to remove the 4 10MM bolts holding it on from the underside inside the trunk.

Just got the Ford one. Not sure of the quality or durability of the aftermarket ones. They are made in the UK by the way. Have been since they were introduced. No idea why.

Thanks, just put it on my watch list. Gonna do the windshield first but the wife is cool with the spoiler too. Little at a time. It's a full time job keeping a nice car nice!

After my right quarter panel got hit by a snowplow in the winter, and it didn't pay to have it fixed... To repair it properly was more than the car was worth, and more than I got for it.

The Marquis is gone as of last week :bigcry:
