Hey guys I'm looking to buy a 4v longblock to get my recently purchased marauder moving and to kill some down time on my build. the current engine on startup gets to normal oil pressure then after a few seconds it drops off and doesn't come back even after revving.

It had a electrical autometer (not a dummy) I installed a mechanical autometer and got the same reading plus when its warmed up you can hear every valve train component. My mechanic wants to change the oil pump and pickup for $250 and he's confident that will fix the problem but I'm afraid it won't because the motor HAS 300k:eek: miles on it.

please let me know what you have or find, not really picky on mileage, I just need a year to two years out of it.

Hook up a real oil pressure gauge to monitor oil pressure. Change oil & oil filter if that has been neglected. I clogged oil filter will resemble those symptoms as well. If it doesn't work then move forward with replacing oil pump & pick up tube.
 
He's only charging $250 to replace it?
