hello everyone! im looking into a cowl hood for the MM. i see this place Class Glass performance that sells a 2.5" cowl with a gelcoat finish for $450. my first question is what is the gelcoat finish? does it still have to be primed? does anyone else know any other company that makes a cowl hood for the MM?

Impalaslayer should chime in but I BELIEVE it makes it easier to prep and paint but IDK for sure and I am probably very wrong. I'm not a body guy. I do know you still have to have it painted and everything.

here i am  lol

i bought their first hood, no real complaints except they didnt pack it very good, im sure the packing has improved since though. i also highly recommend using hood pins with this thing, at high speeds i could see it shaking quite a bit. the gel coat is used to create a nice smooth finish on top of the glass, if you didn't gel coat it, it would be a real pain in the as to get it smooth. they spray the gel coat in the mold first then lay glass on top of it and yes it still needs to be primed for good adhesion. classglass also has great customer service. that being said, id give it an over all 8/10 how ever i sold the hood to ctrlraven because i ended up not liking the way it looked.

1 bad merc went thru 2 or 3 hoods this time last year before getting one good enough to work with. IIRC the first one had a busted corner. In the end, although they took blame, I heard they were getting a bit snippy.

i wish they made more then one style hood for this car im not a huge fan of this hood either, but its the only one! i havnt seen one MM around here with one thats pretty much the only reason why i want it. does anyone know a rough estimate on getting it primed and painted?

I used the Class Glass hood.

We did not use pins and have had no trouble with it despite how violent my car launches.

I have had zero issues from ordering to installation with the hood, although I would recommend swapping the hood props. If you look here on the site, you will find teh correct part number for Autozone and O'Really's has the too.

The actual hinges, or just the gas struts that hold it up? on the website it says to take the gas struts right out

five is right out!

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

Your right. I have one on my Marauder as well. Not packed well, my guy had to repair the hood in one place. I do like it though and it is heatextraction functional. I saw yours first and them bought mine. Excellent inthe summer in the Florida heat. You can see the heat leaving the ports.

Once, a LOOOONG time ago, a guy made a custom hood like the Shelby GT500 hood for his MM. But he made it from scratch with a donor hood from some panther of the same year. Imagine this on your MM, pretty much exactly it:
