1964 Impala SS

Rode in a friends 1964 Impala SS, black on black wtih a factory 409/425HP/Dual Quad Carbs/Muncie 4 Speed. :rock:

No power anything, not even a/c.

THe car is orginial w/ 88K miles in like new condition. Feels like a low 13 second car.

Took him for a ride in my MM and he was impressed! :D

When we were in highschool his grand father made money in the oil patch and opened a Dodge delarship. We used to spend every weekend hopping up Chargers. Some we made faster and some we !@#$ %^!

I didn't know they made a 65 409. I always thought that the 65 big block was a 396. I learn something new everyday.

I was under the impression the 396 debuted a little late in the year... I think I have seen early 1965 409 Chevies, but I don't believe they had the highest performance versions of the 409 available that year... something like 340 hp?

YMMV...

Beauty, man! Those 60's Impalas rocked. Nice to hear he liked your MM!
 
64 327

Back in the 60's, one of the "guys" had a 64 SS, maroon with a black painted top (probably one of a kind), with a 327-300hp engine, 4 sp. He had the 327-350 cam put in, and, for a big boat with 3:36 gears, that car would run.

We did a three way race on the most northern section of the NJ Turnpike just after it opened-my 57 BelAir 283/220hp/ 3 sp Hurst, the 64 SS, and a 63 Impala convert, 283 with an added on 4 barrel/ 3 sp column.

The 64 destroyed us; I was second.

My cousin had a 65 SS, 327-250hp, white, black vinyl top, 4 sp. He constantly beat my future brother in law's 390/300hp Galaxy convertible 4 sp. But, we could put six guys in that big Ford and pull smoothly at low speeds in high gear with that 390.

With a little traction and some timing, this is a low 12 - high 11 second car. The 409s were very under rated from the factory....
 
The 63 and 64 Impalas have always been near the top of my short list of favorite cars!
 
Big Block Impalas

I want a 66 Caprice coupe with a 427, 4 speed, and A/C to cruise the burger stands.. You don't see those every day, and in fact I am not 100% sure they even existed. I do know there were 396 caprices in 66. Here is more on big block Impalas : Check out http://www.impalass427.com
