I purchased a nice very clean one last fall. I intend to get Ohio collector's plates for it.

It needs to be listed in either:National Automobile Dealers Association Classic, Collectible and Special Interest Car Appraisal Guide OR The New Complete Book of Collectible Cars 1930-1990 (the easy way).

Anyone have a copy so they can look it up for me?

Or I need to know who to contact at FoMoCo to get a letter stating it's low production numbers. Even though there were only 3200 made in 84-84, I need proof (the hard way).

Or I need to spend $5000 in mods (the ain't gonna happen way).

BTW -- It' black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana:

The weather and/or my schedule hasn't cooperated for pics.

The car is fun to drive, almost Marauder like. Spins those tiny 14" tires very easy.

Rated at 165 Hp Throttle Body Injection, a real blast to the past. :eek:
 
Sweet Ride! I remember test driving one with my Dad back in '85...That 5.0 was really nice in the LTD. A real sleeper back in the day.
We never bought it, but I did talk my Dad into helping me buy my '85 Mustang GT.:banana2:

In the early 90s I had the Mercury version which was a Canada-only deal from what I understand ... an 85 Marquis LTS. Neat car, around 1400 produced apparently. Too bad it got T-boned on a 60 mph highway. :rolleyes:

There is an article in March 2006 Hemmings Motor News (page 28) entitled "Sleepers 2006." The subtitle is "the top ten collector cars of the future." The 1984-85 Ford LTD LX is listed and described. Specifically for your needs, the article states "Just 3,260 of these rolled off the assembly line...." I hope this helps convince Department of Motor Vehicles."
You can look up the NADA guide at NADA.com. This site is open to anyone. Choose consumer and then look up the THREE SEPARATE categories for special interest, collector, and muscle cars. I do not know whether this site includes all of the choices in the written guide.

A few years back I saw an unusual fox platform car at a car show here in Jax. It was a Ford Durango (really!) that had the front of an LTD or Fairmont and a truck bed in the back ala Ranchero style. The owner told me it was extremely rare, which I verified via the good ole web... This one had a built 5.0 in it.

I'm the current owner of Jefferson's former LTD LX (although it's now sporting 50 or so more HP compared to when he owned it, heh), plus I do own a '97 Crown Vic, so I'd thought I'd chime in.

I've already emailed Dave back and I have a book called "The Standard Catalog of Ford" which mentions the 3260 production number. I'm going to scan the info for him.

I haven't seen the March issue of Hemmings yet, but someone on another board (Four Eyed Pride) posted it...

First of all, the pic is ripped directly off my site. The original pic is from a two-page Ford brochure that I scanned in and photoshopped the two pages together. I removed the seam in the middle which gave the pic of the car really odd proportions....

And some of the info in the Hemmings blurb is incorrect. The LTD LX did not come with a 140-mph speedo. It's just a very common modification. So I dunno if I'd trush Hemmings for accuracy, but I'm sure it'll help your cause since Hemmings is THE collector car periodical.

Paul Casey, what parts do you have?

jimlam56, what you saw was a Ford Durango, which was a Ranchero style conversion to the Ford Fairmont which was sold through Ford dealers. They were very limited production. I actually happened to see one today while driving up to Orange County.

Am I the only one that saw the mustang and vic crossed over to look similar back then? A black mm with fogs and park lights at night kinda also looks like a mustang from a distance in the dark cause we don't have the headlight turn sigs.

Not really. The "four eyed" Crown Vic had its parking lights right under the headlights. The Mustang and midsize LTDs had them in the bumper. So the front profile, especially at night, is fairly different.
