I was ordering some parts from Tousley Ford the other day and noticed they are selling Ford Racing 410 ring and pinion for $126.98....VERY CHEAP....Don't know how much shipping is..Worth looking into if you're in the market....

Once I buy the 4:10's is there anything else I will need to do this mod? I know I want it done but would like to know if there is anything else I will need once I buy them.

Maybe a rebuild kit would be in order since it is being opend up anyway..new clutches and such for the diff. I think they are like around $70??? You will need a tune for the 4.10, so if you do not have a tuner then you will need a sct and a tune from like MO's Speed shop or Alernative Auto..both vendors here. Cost is around $400 plus shipping.

You'll need an installation kit, and you'll need to have to tune parameters (i.e. shift schedule and speedo settings) recalibrated to accomodate the new gear ratio.

those are good numbers to go with.

IMO 4.10s and a tune are the two best mods for the money.

After that, I'd start saving for a blower...

If you do not need or want to replace your axle bearings/seals then the basic one is all you need.

If you get a new diff along with the new gears then you will need the middle one.

If you get a new diff and want the axle bearings/seals then the last one is what you need.

Thanks, Birdman. I plan of having my diff rebuilt; seems to be the popular consent to do it on higher-mileage MMs (91K on mine). I guess the next question is, do I need to get new axle bearings/seals. I would tend to think yes. Wanna have it done right...

If it was me I would go ahead and replace them since the axle will already be out and it's just cheap insurance.

If you want to rebuild the diff providing the spider gears inside the carrier are fine then all you will need is this for the rebuild http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-4700-C/

If the spider gears are either chewed up or chipped then you can try and track down the spider gears or buy a whole new carrier. My spider gears were a little chewed up so I opted for a whole new FRPP diff carrier.

and i plan on getting this mod as well, but my car has 24,970 miles(going to 25000!! ) i wouldnt need a rebuilt or anything just yet other than the gears right??

Got my new rears slapped on today...afterwards, was BSing with head mechanic for a couple of mintues. He said my car sounded great; I told him that I'm hoping to get down to the ATL in a couple weeks to have 4.10s installed. He says, "we can do that here. I've got a guy that all he does is gear work."

After talking for a couple more minutes, I could tell he knew what needed to be done and wasn't blowing smoke up my butt just to get me to drop more $$$ at his shop. A friend of mine has had work done on his truck at this place a couple of times and has had no issues. Told him I'd think about it; the reason I was planning on having it done in ATL was because I was possibly going to visit my brother at the end of the month.

I know the ultimate decision is mine, but now I need to re-assess the situation. Do I make the drive to Mo's, where I know for sure things will be done right, or do I take a shot with this local shop? I don't have a problem with the drive to-from ATL, but time & $$$ for gas is a player. The quote I received today is less than Mo's, but I realize that's just a quote.

What do you all think? TIA...

Go to Mo's for a piece of mind.

You don't want the rear to go bad and have to spend a lot more $$$ and also make a drive out to Mo's with a broken car.

I called up a bunch of speed shops out my way and finally decided on a place near my house. They are a vendor on TCG and I had read nothing but praise for the man. Almost two years now with the 4.10's and quiet as a mouse.

Just about the majority of members here say Mo's or Alternative is the place so I would take it there......but kinda hard for me that I'm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on an island.
