8 rib alternator pulley problems, 03 MM

During a recent remote tune with Marty, the alternator pulley lost several of its rear threads, and moved down the alternator shaft, away from the alternator body. This caused a severe misalignment to the nearby supercharger pulley and partially shredded the belt.
The 8 rib pulley is a clutched INA brand. It installs with the 32 spline tool , similar to the OEM 6 rib non clutched pulley.

Does anyone have any ideas how this might have happened?

I will try to add photos.

thanks

Well, very few anyways. David Kleist ( Blazen) did. He and I swapped to 8 rib at the same time. But to your point, in a recent conversation with Marty about this pulley, he advised against. I already have the non clutched in hand.

Marty gave you some sound advice.

I saw it in your build and thought WHY. To what benefit on a SC'ed car.

Do ya really need the extra 2~3HP @WOT Rousch intended for our cars in the stock NA form? NO

Agreed. I know more now.
David was very helpful to me when I was doing the 8 rib swap, for which I am always thankful.
I’m a bit of a newb. I appreciate the inputs.
Thanks

It's not about hp, it's about the squeal the belt makes on the alternator pulley during hard upshifts. SC doesn't matter, only engines without a heavy alternator.

Anyone care to translate this? I can't get my head around what he's trying to say.

The pulley on stock engines is a clutch type pulley. Its purpose is to eliminate the loud squeal that occurs when the engine abruptly drops from a high rpm to a lower rpm, such as during WOT upshifts.

It's not there for a few extra hp.

On a supercharged engine, same thing I imagine. Unless the upshifts are somehow _softer_ than stock.

Sorry but you're wrong. The Marauder was the only 32valve that got the clutched pulley. Jack Roush added it to our cars to gain 2~3 HP at WOT (The MM is the only car with this option available in the tune)

If what you say is true why didn't the Mach 1, Terminator, and Aviator get this option?

Well the Marauder may have been the only 32v to have it, but P71's had this as well actually, and he's correct. You can find videos of civilian crown vics doing WOT pulls and having a little "chirp" noise happen on the 1-2 which isn't the tires.

It was talked about on CVN plenty of times over the years

Here is a clutched pulley 6G alt from a P71

How would the PCM control it? It's a one way mechanical clutch. I feel like the rest of that is just old MM.net folklore, like how people swore for YEARS that the Marauder had a very specific alternator and wasn't interchangeable with any other Ford product, I thought that might be true until I swapped a 04 CVLX Sport alternator on and ran it with no issues for 20,000 miles til I sold the car.

Ok… so, now I am wondering, is the INA non clutched alternator pulley, with the 32 spline tightening hole, that was on my used 03 MM when I bought it, NOT oem?
