You haven't messed with it at all have you? If the unit isn't grounded it'll keep the light on and throw an airbag code about something related to power (don't remember the exact code). I had mine floating around when I did the manual swap and my airbag light was on, when I bolted it down to the remnants of the center console bracket the light went off and has been off for 2 years.
Clock spring would also be possible as well but I'd expect the horn/cruise to not work.
I do have an airbag module out of a 2004 Sport if you end up needing to swap it.
My car was in a accident two years ago, the driver side air bag diployed and I had to get the RCM reset and my driver side seatbelt. I sent it off to this company in Georgia https://www.myairbags.com/ to get it reset. I also replaced the clock spring and the crash sensors. If you never had a accident where your airbag deployed just get a scanner that can read ABS and it'll tell you what the problem is. The RCM goes with the code of your car. Mine is BMD0....
