Air Suspension System compressor

I've noticed this is coming on every day now when I start the engine. Used to come on very seldom. Could I have a leak and how can verify this?

I would add that if you haven't change your parking habit, meaning, same spot or grade; it could mean something to investigate ...:rolleyes:
Mine do start a bit at home since there's a slight declining in the front of the car where i park but don't do it any other flat parking spot.

Don't ditch the car in a pool to check for bubbles thought ...
 
When you get out of the car and close the door, the air suspension releases some air. You should here a hiss shortly after you close the door and the rear of the car drops about 2 inches. When you start it back up it readjusts itself. Its normal. Well at least that is what mine has done since I drove it off the lot.
 
I had the air suspension on a 96 Crown Vic with the Handling Performance Package. It should start when the car is started to raise the rear as air is released upon the last door closing when the car is turned off - and the rear drops.

As the cars ages, the rubber mounts used to quite the vibration deteriorate. That causes the compressor to sound louder.
 
Where is the compressor in our cars? I assume in the trunk. And I assume behind some panel in the trunk. But can someone be more specific...?

Nope 'other end.
Under the Air Filter box.
 
The thing to watch for is that when you come out in the morning the car hasn't settled at the stern like you have a two ton weight in the trunk.

For a while the compressor will try it's mightest to level the car. It will succeed for a while (week or so) then burn up, blow the fuse and then you will be eligable for the River City Raza low rider club. If your in warranty good, if you have an extended warranty, good. If not, then take $1161.15 with you to the dealer to redeem your repaired car. Experience.

I believe they can be converted. I has been done on older Contentinals and Town Cars. I don't know the cost.

You can replace them with the springs used for Taxi Service.
I believe they are Cargo Load springs.
The more you load the trunk , the more weight they will support.
They won't allow the car to sag like others do when you load up the trunk
with stuff.

An 03 compressor and dryer assy retails for $183.00 and an 04 for $190.00. The labor is .8 hours to replace the compressor or $76.00 at our dealership. The check out time shouldn't be more than 1 hour or $85.00. How did you come up with $1161.15??? Ray :confused: :confused:

yeah, I would like to know who told him that price???? This gives dealers a bad name, we have enough problems...
 
Is the whole works shot?

I think he is talking about having the whole "works" being
replaced...meaning the air shocks (air bags) in the rear
need replacement because they won't hold any air, etc.
A friend recently had his Town Car done...cost about $1500.
for the whole shooting match. (Local L-M dealer)
I have over 100K on my Town Car and never had a bit of trouble
with the air suspension. Same with my Grand Marquis......

Gotta Love It!

Just hope mine "hang in there", so I don't have
to find out!
As a side note, are there any Oil Catchers still left?
