Damn, doing it right sure is worth it though. 6 qt Mobile 1 5-20, 1 mobile 1 oil filter, 7qt of royal purple aft Fluid. K&N filter cleaning kit. But she runs like a dream. All due again in 3k miles.

I get absolutely hysterical when I see people using full synthetic and changing it every 3000 miles..

You wanna throw your money away, let me give you my address.
 
3k is a guideline not the rule. most likely it is like 3-5k. pending on driving cond. Lots of sitting in traffic = 3k 5k if lots of hwy driving was done. How often should it be changed ???

It depends, honestly. If you are sitting in traffic all day long boiling all your fluids, I would go with 5. I've went 8 before, and it was barely dirty, but that doesn't mean it wasn't "broken down". Do what ever gives you peace of mind :beer:
 
I use Valvoline 5W20 and an excellent filter. I drive barely 1,000 miles a year and change it early anyway. Synthetic would be a waste for me but I have it in my rear end and tranny.
 
If you use Mobil 1 I wouldnt even consider changing it until the 7500 mile mark.

I mean absolutely no offence or disrespect ddog, but 3,000-mile oil changes are SO old...not to mention being a huge waste.

Today's motors run so much cleaner and today's oils are so much better that the new guideline is:

Conventional oil: 5,000 miles
Synthetic blend: 7,500 miles
Full Synth: 10,000 miles

Before you get all alarmed and hysterical at that last number, consider this: almost everywhere in the free world specifies much longer oil change intervals than here in North America, on the very same engines sold here. The biggest proponent of 3,000-mile oil changes is the quick-lube industry. Who owns Jiffy Lube? Shell. Need I say more? (No, I'm not a conspiracy whacko.)

One more point of interest: The 2011 Mustang V6 specs 10,000-mile oil changes from the factory.

I'm not suggesting you run 10,000 miles on your next interval of Mobil 1. I am saying that you're not doing your motor or your wallet any favours by draining it so early, either.
 
I wouldnt change out Mobil 1 until about 10K, I use the extended performace and change mine out every 15K...It is still very clean with that many miles....save your money bro.
 
My 2008 Taurus manual recommends every 7,500 miles for it's oil change and it takes full synthetic 5W-20 just like the Marauder. I think the most I have went was around 6,000 miles with the Marauder but with the mileage I was putting on it (around 140k miles now) I stuck to 5,000 limit. I change 5 quarts of trans fluid every 15-20k miles and all fluids besides engine oil and trans flushed every 2 yrs or every 40-45k miles. I do about 5k miles in 2.5 to 3 month span.
 
I wonder how well those new oil sensors will work

On my friends 3500 Big Dualy it always tells him when to change the oil and constantly changes vs the driving he does.

His manual says it actualy can read the viscosity of the oil to determin when it needs to be changed out.

Once it didn't have him change it till after 10,000 mile's and another time 6,000.

Are you sure about that? GM's OLM is an complex algorithm that takes many factors into account, including ambient temp, number of cold starts, total running time and RPM, but it doesn't actually measure anything in the oil.
 
I change mine every 500 miles or the aluminum from the bearings starts to clog all the plumbing... :D

Mobile 1 oil filters do not have a good anti-drain back valve in them. What happens: oil drains back into the pan and the cams are DRY. When you start your car after it has sat overnight you'll hear the cams starved (and grinding) for oil for about 1.5 seconds. Not good.
 
The owner's manual on my '77 Cordoba specified 7500 for conventional back in 1977.

That said, I still change 4-5k usually. I like to crawl under the car every once in awhile and spend some time with it. Plus, VatoZone and Advance usually have oil change specials, so I'm out the door for $30ish with synthetic and a filter.
