Another tire thread...

Local Boy

I get'em...
Hey guys and Gals...

I was at the GoodYear service center here, and came across some really nice looking tires that I have not seen discussed here...

Has anyone tried the Dunlop Direza Sport Z1 tire...or the Direza DZ 101

They come in close to our sizes, and look awesome!!! I'am looking at the the 245/40R18 (front) and 265/35R18 (rear)

Very expensive though...What you folks think???

Sorry I don't know how to link the site...If someone could post a pic and the linky, I'am sure everyone would appreciated it...

Thanks...

ALOHA

PLEASE disregard...these are way too short...

Our stock tires are 28.6" tall out back. These ones (265/35/18) would only be 25.3" tall! They would actually be shorter than the fron tires you listed in the original post... Way too short.

I'm not a fan of Dunlops. The GS-D3's have excellent wet performance, a well matched load and speed rating, and better-than-stock handling. The only downside is that they have a relatively poor treadwear number.

Concerning both of the mentioned tire models, the only combination that might work is 225/40R18 in the front and 245/45R18 in the rear. This produces a slightly larger % change on the revs/mile difference over the common 235/50-255/55 option. The trade offs are a loss of contact patch width in the front and a load rating that is significantly lower than stock, as is the problem with many of our current tire options.

Concerning cost, these tires are cheaper than GS-D3's, PilotSport 2's, and the like, but are more expensive than stock.

Thanks guys...This tire stuff is very new to me, and I appreciate the help and insight...

Fortunately, I'm in the "research" mode, and don't need tires right now...

This is in anticipation of melting the tires once the 'resurrection' is complete...

I remain forever grateful...

Red,

I don't know...my '04 w/ 16K on them stock tires...the tread seems to have disappeared real quickly (I've never had a set go that quickly in my life...and while I've run the Marauder pretty good...I've been a lot nicer to it than most of my vehicles).

Needless to say...I'm in need of a new set. Looking to get a set of shoes on her for this summer.

Several members have started choosing Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's and everyone seems to agree: they provide excellent performance and a smooth ride. However, if you're looking for treadwear, they have a relatively low rating. The problem with tires for our cars is that there's no perfect balance between size (including matching rake), performance, load rating, treadwear, etc. Personally, having tried a few options, I opted for correct size, performance (and safety for that matter), and load rating; unfortunately, I had to sacrifice treadwear.

Alternates for me included the BFGoodrich KDW NT, a.k.a., KDW2 (the 255/55R18 is no longer made), and the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (PS2). There were several other options, but most I would have had to sacrifice either performance (they were rated poorly across several sites) or load index, for which I was weary on going with a lower rating.

Thanks for the input. This time around I'll probably just order the BFG's and see what's out and about the next time I turn them into slicks. I'll have to get a little more loife out of these though...the wife looks disapprovingly at the rate I ate these up...... *sigh*
