Another Totaled Marauder

He actually made me sign a confidentiality agreement before I could post this story... Just kidding :D

My friend is the brother of Robert Geathers, He plays for the Bengals.

Ocho whoever the hell he is this yr. Had Marauder if memory serves.........

Drove up in one when reporting for camp last yr. or the yr. before.

This is why I don't drive in the rain anymore, I personally think this is one of the SCARIEST cars i've ever driven in the rain! ABSOLUETLY the worst hydroplaning car, and cornering is freaking hairy! Straight line takeoffs and braking are the ONLY plus's.

I don't think so

If you have good tires on a car and drive the speed limit, there is no way you can do something like that. Everybody hydroplanes every now and then but you slow down and regain control. Obviously speeding was a factor if you flip a 4200 lb car over by driving in the rain. I'm not saying I drive the speed limit in the rain either but I sure do slow down.

I broke my back in an aircraft hydroplaning accident in the 50s. I did some testing of Boeing 707 hydroplaning at Atlantic City and I have about 1,000,000 miles of driving experience. The tread on the car makes a minor difference in hydroplaning -- hydroplaning is a function of speed and tire pressure--weight makes no difference. The average automobile hydroplanes about 55 MPH and above--Mercedes or Kia--no great difference. Speed limits are well above this. Also, as long as the layer of water is between the tire and the surface, there is no control whatsoever---we hydroplaned 7,800 feet and lost less than 10 mph. Once inertia puts the car in motion, it will continue until tire to hard surface contact takes place---no stability control or ABS will change things---however, a properly functioning ABS can give you a warning by flickering as hydroplaning starts. We are all very lucky we have survived driving in the rain this long. I am not an engineer--this is just personal experience---technically, I could be wrong---I'll take my experience--theories are nice--reality is a whole other world. Please drive carefully around water--it only takes a fraction of an inch of water to hydroplane. Let's not destroy any more Marauders, Maury

Glad to hear everyone was ok. I hydroplaned on I81 in PA last Saturday night. Just get out of the gas and she'll correct, provided you have decent shoes. A NFL player gave his brother a car with baldini's on it :shake:

glad everyone's ok.
With all these Marauder's going down lately, I'm concerned!
F this! mines going into the garage until this settles down!!
(then again, i dont drive mine in the rain)

Best advice IF you get caught in an MM in the rain -- pretend there is a fresh egg in the shell under your gas pedal -- drive GENTLY, get home safe and keep our membership here UP!!!!!. Same goes for driving a Mustang or Vette. Just gotta keep the shiny side UP!!!!
GordonB

I hear ya Gordon. When I lost mine it was like the rug got pulled out from under me. Same story, wet I-95, lo rear tread and 75 mph. Bad combination. I have a good bit of performance driving experience but it only takes a second of bad judgment to ruin your day. I think of that day often and drive differently now.

sad to see it like that, but another Panther doing its job... Outdated, full frame, land yatchs, yet lets see a smart car do that!! Another testament to the Marauder and Panther's strength.

btw, that looks like a good passengers headlight lol

Tell me about it. I'm going to give him a few more days to mourn his loss before i start making offers for his floor mats and wheels. And I'm also tempted to see if anything under the hood can be salvaged... Like the entire motor ;)
