If the headlight switch is on auto and You turn the wipers on, the lights come on.

thanks for the reply, the light switch is new and I always keep it off. I seem to be having a problem with the lighting control module, once in a while my parking lights won't come on, I kick above the brake pedal and they start working lol
I think it all may be related.

In my 04' Town Car also the headlights come on when the rain starts - even if the light switch is turned off. They do not come on when it's dark (and light switch is off).

PM me. I can repair / upgrade your LCM.

Even if you have the switch set to 'off' your lights will come on if your turn your wipers on and leave them activated for 10-15 seconds. This was done on purpose as a bunch of states had recently created laws mandating the use of headlights when raining.

It seems like kind of stupid, the use of headlights is also mandated when it's dark but the "OFF" setting does not activate them when it's dark - because it's "OFF" not "AUTO" lol.

I believe numerous studies were conducted in the 80s and it was determined that vehicles with their headlights on when it is raining, and in other poor weather conditions, during daylight hours made those cars more easily visible to other drivers. This is why it became a law in many states during the late 80s and early 90s, just like how the seat belt law came to be, to help reduce deaths in automobile accidents. This is also the reason for the invention and implementation of the "3rd brakelight" as well.

I really don't see what's 'stupid' about that...

Not all cars have auto headlights, but they all have wipers. So, it is possible to require vehicle manufacturers to run the headlights when the wipers are turned on. There is no mandate for "auto" headlights, but there ought to be.
