Call to action (Vegas Meet)

Here is just some of my ideas to choose from if you need any.

Glitter Gulch, Mob Museum, The Gun Store (fire a Tommy Gun!), the Titanic Exhibit, Hershey's World, Haunted Vegas Tour, Fast Lap Kart Racing, Neon Museum, Nevada State Museum, Atomic Testing Museum, Howard Cannon air museum, Mormon State Historic Park, Auto Collections, Mini-Golf, M&M World, Hershey's World, Natural History Museum, the Shelby American like Redster recommended, and the Steak n Shake at the Southpoint Casino. The Bonnie and Clyde Death Car, Liberace Museum, Boulder Dam, Calico ghost town, just to name a few.

Just south of Vegas into Arizona are also a few things worth seeing, like Hackberry, Chloride, Rhyolite, Cactus Joe's in Oatman (& Oatman Hotel), Kingman (Hualapai Mountain Park, Powerhouse Visitor Center and Route 66 Museum), Ed's Camp in McConnico, Grand Canyon Caverns, Truxton Frontier Cafe, and so on on route 66 but then we get too far out of our way.

You definitely have some good knowledge to share. I sent you a PM. I think you would make a great addition to our Vegas Committee

Vegas meet.

Hi guy's, OK, here's where I'm at with the Vegas Meet, it does not seem like any local Marauder people are willing or able to commit to organizing an event. I would help within my limited time availability, but this would be insufficient to properly set up an event. I still want to have a number of Marauders in town for a weekend, however, some of the suggested places to go while in town, have nothing to do with our cars. If members want to go to some of these places, then they should plan some personal private time to do just that. I say this to all car club members, "If the event does not center around the interaction of our cars, then whats the point?" Here are some of my suggestions, driving the Red Rock loop, cruising the strip, eating at a Sonic, going to a Cruise Night, drag racing, hanging out at a park, driving to Mount Charleston. What do all these activities have in common?, they allow all cars that are here to be either driven, or at a location at "THE SAME TIME", thank you very much. I never eat where I can't look out a window and see my car, period. No matter how I might come off with this post, for me I enjoy and appreciate my Marauder so much, that I want to share that enthusiasm with others and their CARS who feel as I do. Other then that, some time in September is good for me.

It just darn tough to put together an event like this. So, don't feel bad.
My suggestion is to keep it simple. Figure out someplace to meet and greet with the cars, figure out someplace with cheap eats and someplace at some sort of attraction meet after eats. Maybe a decent hotel/casino with a buffet and maybe a break on rooms and meals, I don't mean EASY SLOTS casino.
I know Marauderville sounds neat, but it would require a ton of work and it doesn't sound like we have enough volunteers for that.
Anyway, it is a great idea.

03blackvegas,

Just my two cents. I understand your comments. However, since some people are thinking of coming a long distance, I think it would have to be attractive enough to warrant the long drive and taking the vacation time off. Not sure how many would come out just for a meet up and lunch. I would think it would have to at least be a two day event including places to eat and at least one cruise together. And let's face it, there isn't always enough auto memorabilia places to keep everyone and thier spouses and families occupied.

And not to showupmanship, but the east coast often incorporates Civil War musuems, Hersheys, and other non-car related events into thier meetups.

Maybe we just need someone to set the scope, how many days of activities and what type of activities (where people can pick and choose which activities they want to go to for each morning or afternoon/evening where some could if they wish spend time with just thier families during one slot), etc. And we need to agree that there is no bad ideas in brainstorming.

I agree and you are right about making it a real Las Vegas experience that offers a good reason for people to spend time and money attending. It needs to be at least 3 days. Maybe arrive Wed. night, events Thursday, Friday & Saturday with farewells on Sunday morning. I have to disagree that it it too difficult to plan something like this. The internet and telephone will get the job done from a distance, although it would be ideal if someone local can take a look and make sure things look OK. I give Ryan and the rest of you a lot of credit for going forward with plans that are for our enjoyment. Thank you!

BTW the Civil War Museum and Hersey were amazing...:D

I'm afraid I can't help much with planning, but I would show up in the Marauder!

Awesome! We'll be creating a poll soon to gauge interest and get some preliminary headcounts

I agree, putting an event together takes a lot of work and effort. After attending numerous East Coast events, I can attest to the dedication and detail that goes into the planning of every event.

We do have things in motion right now. The dates for the meet are Sept 23-27. This is the normal amount of days for Maraudervilles, Louisville, Carlisle, and any other big meet. It's not a weekend event. I'm taking cues from the logistics of Louisville and the planning of MV. Our Vegas itinerary will consist of a car show, hopefully some dyno, track day, maybe a drive to Hoover dam (not sure yet) as well as plenty of downtime for folks to enjoy shows/casinos on their own.

I'm helping to plan Vegas as a "Destination Trip" with a focus on a more relaxed atmosphere. Remember, this is the first time we're planning something this huge on the west coast. I don't want to get completely burned out by the little things. If this event is a success, then I don't see why this can't be an annual event every year for the West Coast.

In addition, Vegas is a convenient (and relatively cheap) destination from most Airport hubs. Which means, folks who don't want to drive, can still fly in and enjoy the event. Sure it's better with your Marauder, but I've learned that most Marauder events are social gatherings. It's more about the people and friendship than it is the car.

Anyways, thanks for keeping the dialogue going. I hope to have the major parts squared away in the next day or so (Hotel reservations, track reservations, dyno reservations). What I will need after submitting the proposal to the admins, is a committee to help brainstorm other events, ideas, places to eat, roads to take, accommodations for our group... anybody in Vegas familiar with other car clubs? (Mustang, Ford, Shelby guys???), as well as someone to take reins on vendor sponsorship, fundraising, t-shirt design, trophy, raffle, etc...

It's a lot to do, but honestly, the major thing is picking the date, and getting the hotels reserved. Everything else, I believe, will fall into place. As long as we have the dates, people will show up.

I will be flying in. Mebot you have a spare Marauder I could barrow? Ihave been there about 50 times and love the place...

This would interest me since my dad was stationed at Indian Springs in the '50s and was at the atomic testing in the desert.

There is a lot of neat places to see out there Red Rock is cool so is The Valley of Fire one of Elvis Presley films was a race there in Viva Las Vegas.

If you want to get irradiated, I hear you can visit the Trinity site in New Mexico. Its open once or twice a year. :)

Bump with amended dates.

The Vegas Meet will be held Sept 16-20, 2015

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we had to push the dates up one week to accommodate the exciting schedule we're putting together.
