Can a marauder pass Ca SMOG sniffer test with the rear cats deleted?

I just bought a pristine 52,000 mile two owner marauder with the only mods being 4:10 gears and borla muffler. I already want more sound from the exhaust so i'm considering deleting the rear CATS.

I was just curious for anyone living in Ca that has done this will the car still pass the sniffer test? I know it wont pass the visual but i'm not worried about that. TIA!

Vortech is your only supercharger option for California smog required areas. CARB number (CARB EO D-213-27) and the emission components cannot be disabled in the tune or removed.

ADTR is a good choice for buying a supercharger kit.

Yes sir! my buddy works for Vortech down in oxnard. Right now i'm just concerned with deleting the rear cats for better sound and flow. I'm curious if anyone in Ca has done this and still passed the sniffer portion of the Ca SMOG test with just the two front cats?

If the car has 4.10 gears then it should have a tune on it. Do you know if the car has a tune on it, if so who might it be from? Some tuners will turn off the rear O2 sensors in the tune.

The rear cats are behind the rear O2 sensors, so it won't throw any CEL and make it run any differently. I would think as as long as the O2 sensors are reading correctly (not sluggish due to age or mileage) and the car is well maintained it should pass.

I don't believe it has a tune is that bad? On the drive home I noticed the speedo was off by about 10 mph so I wrote the seller and he told me it had 4:10 gears and he completely forgot to mention it. I was glad because that was one of the first mods I planned on doing. He then told me with a tuner and aftermarket tune it would re calibrate the speedo.

In regards to the rear cats i'm going to delete them and just hang on to them for the next smog in two years.

I have been told you should pass as long as they dont do a visual(most dont look under the car, anyways.) If im not mistaken most chevys have only 2 cats anyways?

That thing must be shifting way early with no tune and 4.10's!

Some CA Marauder owners have received notice they must have Star testing done. Lifespeed and myself. I have no idea what triggered the notice. Star will detect the rear cats are missing and you will fail.

As for standard CA smog testing, I do not know - I have always had the rear cats installed. Try it and if you get caught, accept the cost to reinstall the rear cats.

It should pass with the rear cats removed. Unless the tech really really knows his cars or is told to look for the second set of cats he'll never know they are missing.

Yeah so I'm going to have them deleted and just hang on to the rear cats. I just had the car smogged yesterday so I should be good for two years.

Another reason to not live in California

Smog Check at a STAR Station

Some vehicles require a Smog Check at a STAR station. This includes vehicles that fail Smog Check due to excessively high emissions levels. It also includes vehicles, based on Smog Check history and other data, with the greatest likelihood of failing their next inspection. The Department of Motor Vehicles registration renewal notice indicates if a vehicle requires inspection at a STAR station. Instructions are provided on the back of the renewal notice to assist consumers with the STAR Program.
