My dad has a Grand Marquis and today I was in it and happen to notice that there is an EXTRA cigarette lighter outlet in the front passenger side right near where my piece of carpet is missing. [you are missing that same piece of carpeting too if you have a MM] The Grand Marquis needs the cutout in order to attach that extra outlet. My dad didn't even know he had an extra outlet.

So.... there it is.... the factory used the same pattern to cut the carpet piece in the MM as the Grand Marquis. The GM has an extra outlet and the automotice designers did not take the time to realize that they would not be needing this cutout. [we have the extra outlet in the armrest].

Now I gotta come up with a solution to this problem... possibly a piece from an extra floormat, or perhaps a 'cover' like on the driver side.
 
When I was replacing my gauges I noticed the carpet cutout and saw that the floor outlet for the heater is just behind the cutout.
 
What does the trim around this extra outlet look like? Does it give it a finished look? Do we have the wiring to add the extra outlet? Perhaps retrofitting the outlet would be a good fix? I would not mind having another power point!
 
Actually, before my Marauder, I had a 2001 Crown Vic Sport. It had a power point in the console, like the Marauder, but also had another power point on the passenger's side like your Dad's car. I suspect what we have here is a classic case of Ford's "decontenting".

I still have yet to find this elusive un-carpeted spot in my MM.
 
The missing piece is on the front passenger side. If you are sitting in the passenger seat, it will be near your left ankle. The piece is about 4 x 4 inches i think.

Maybe we all could do a group purchase of some color matched carpet and cut to match.

I was going to buy an extra set of floormats and use one of the rear mats to cut up into pieces (good for 4 or 6 cars). I am waiting for the parts guy at my dealer to let me know if Mercury will send me a piece for free before I buy the extra mats.

In regard to Russ in VA, I could also use an extra power point. Do you suppose it is possible to install the very same outlet assy. as the one in Slowpoke's father's car? Theorectically it would fit perfect, maybe even find a hidden harness....

What year and model was that Marquis?
I just traded a '99 GS, it did not have one. I had to install a cheap (workable) add on outlet from radio shack under the dash for my big Bearcat CB.

I'll check for a part number on Friday when they fix my (can't find R) shifter.

I miss my 60watt come over the payphone and your tv set radio with external PA.
 
my dad's Marquis is a 2000, i think. it sure is uncomfortable I can tell you that much!

Not to mention how sloooowwwwww he drives!
 
Looking at my handy dandy service DVD, I'm not seeing an extra wire loom in the car for this port. There are two types of looms that go in, one with cousel and one without (which the difference seems to be in the length of the power point wires). So, unless you want to splice into the power point wires to make an extra "outlet" for another power point, I don't think you'll be able to just simply hook it up. I could be wrong however, not an expert at reading wire/vacuum diagrams... And god knows what really gets put into are car up there... I'd say the best bet is to look, but I'm not seeing any indication of there being two connectors under there.
 
Why not tap the additional power point off the cigarette lighter ?
Just a thought.
 
I've done it. But in my smoking days (recently beat cigs), when I would Key up the radio while lighting a smoke, I would blowout a vast array of fuses. There are atleast two always hot (vacant)fuse positions inthe fuse box under the dash. My bird-dog is in the Traction Control slot.
I have bags of brass fuse adapters for mini's. These spots work best. Just tap on the 0- volt side of the fuse, make sure you have an appropriate size fuse and you are good to go. If I can find that ford part in black I'm on it.

ROFL, CRUZ!! ....reminds me of my good ol' days installing 8-tracks and Pioneer Super-Tuna's for my friends... *sigh* :coolman:
 
Today I reached down where the missing carpet piece is and noticed warm air from the heater duct does blow out there. Set your heater to floor and you'll find that it's probably not a good idea to block this off.
 
Fordnut I noticed the same thing but it seemed to me that the heat duct blows right into the carpet gap!So maybe a carpet piece as Slowpoke has suggested maybe a better fix.
 
Has anyone found a part number for the Marquis Power point assembly? I have a parts CD but can not find the thing.
