Cranking/Starting After Storage?

Hey -

If Punxsutawney Phil (US, National, Groundhog) is correct, we're going to have an early Spring -.

As I've never stored a car before, I was wondering if there is a way to crank the car without it firing so that I can get the oil to circulate before firing.

Thanks,

Mark

Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay

What you have to do is pull the fuse and or relay and run it until it stalls. When it stalls crank it and im sure its going to almost catch but will stop soon after. Then youre good. The spark doesnt matter with no fuel.

Just hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank over. NO fuel and when oil Psi is up release the peddle and let it start. You may also want to have a battery charger hooked up if you have not started in while. Do not crank over 20 sec then let sit 1 min then crank again 20 sec and let sit 1 min on the third cranking you should have oil psi at the top of the motor. This is how I start after letting it sit for over a week or more.

I've seen this. How is this possible? Is something turned off by holding the pedal to the floor?

Thanks.

The PCM shuts off the injectors. Yes, it's designed this way.

I didn't have the guts to try this on my car, but I no doubt tested it on my parts Marauder and its true. Holding the pedal to the floor just made it crank over and not start til I took my foot off the throttle.

The PCM turns the injectors of due to clear flood mode when ACCL is held WOT or on the Floor. Push accelerator pedal down before key on and crank engine will not start.

Best to have oil psi up before car starts to keep from having cam damage dry starts are what shorten engine life.

I am also curious about this. I have a car that sits for weeks at at time, but I never really thought about this before.

If you're turning the whole engine to pump the oil, what's the difference in engine wear if you turn it without starting it, or you just start it ? You're turning it either way.

Thanks in advance.

I needed to read this as I don't want to damage it this spring. Sticky, anyone ? I'm a newbie to this forum but, shall I do the same to my '06 Mustang as well ?

There is none because pressure is instant. We aren't in the 60s anymore guys...
Oil filters have anti drainback valves unless you're usng a *****iest one out there, which I think even those have them.

Just crank it over like normal. If anything you'd be causing extra wear on the starter from excessive crank, which, in reality would only be if you were cranking on it repeatedly for like 45 second successively.
