Could be worse. At least nobody got hurt.

I just put the black powdercoated rims I got from a forum member on my car on Monday.

Wednesday night at 8:05 pm the nice lady in the far right lane decided that she simply had to make a left turn and took out both of my right doors, the part of the body behind the right door, the rear bumper cover, and the right rear rim. Chunks of plastic from her car are embedded between tire and rim, caught in the bead.

Hopefully there's no other rear end damage.

Again, nobody was injured. But other vehicle's registration expired 3 months ago at the same time that her insurance lapsed.

I got almost 3 days use out of the new wheels, now it's back to the old and a trip to a body shop. I turned it over to my insurance company. My deductible is $500.

Yup. She hit me and admitted to it. But she isn't insured and I highly doubt she has the assets to cover my damage and pay her fines. I'm fully insured, including uninsured motorist. So if I want any repairs done it is much better for me to make the claim with my insurance company and let them fight her for recovery. It's a single claim for a not at fault accident - my rates won't be affected, and I'd rather only have to spend $500 than pay for all of the repairs out of pocket.

When I told a friend here about the collision he asked if I kicked the other driver's ass. I explained to him that it was a 4 foot 10 inch 88 pound 67 year old woman wearing thick glasses. Of course I kicked her ass. :D

No, I didn't touch her. :)
 
Make sure you read your policy carefully. Years ago I had to file a claim against an uninsured motorist, and my deductible was waived per the policy. I had to point out the pertainent clause to my agent as he hadn't read it either!

After checking with the company, he said, "Guess you're right."

Got a check for the deductible they charged me. :)
 
With your uninsured motorist coverage, it should take care of your deductable. The only problem going the route that you are going to go, is... that will show up as a claim against you, even though it was not your fault, regardless if they ever collect from the other party.

The bottom line, if you can't afford the insurance for your car, you shouldn't be on the road. It stinks that you and I are responsible, but yet we continue to pay for others mistakes, WTFO?
 
It's a miracle.

My insurance company did some checking and the car actually belongs to a sister or something of other driver. While everything in the car was expired, she was NOT driving without insurance... they found the policy the owner had on the car by checking out the information off her expired insurance card.

My insurance company is still processing the claim for me, but their insurance is covering repairs and I don't have to pay a deductible.

Body shop estimates 8 days for repairs, cost of about $4,000. And I get a rental car from her insurance while mine is being repaired.

Its not always old ladies. I had a nitwit on I90 put me on the inside shoulder yesterday at 75 mph when he decided his mini van needed to be in the fast lane. No signals, no look before hand, just changed lanes. I hit the brakes and dove for the shoulder. I believe the guy in the Beemer 325 behind me had racing stripes in his shorts as he obviouly hit the brakes really hard to avoid collecting me. When I looked in the mirror the van guy had his head down and it appeared the woman in the passenger seat was in the process of removing a butt cheek...

Glad to hear this wreck worked out for you. I was reminded recently that not being at fault in NYS doesn't matter, it is still held against you. There must be a insurance claim database that tracks "incidents". State Farm brought up one that wasn't even reportable and the other driver was totally at fault. Didn't matter, still held against me. :bs:
 
I wish insurance companies would cut people a check for the depreciated value of repaired cars also.

My old Cobra got hit BAD by a drunk that fled. My insurance had to take care of everything and my $17K car was then worth $12K... and stayed undervalue until I sold it taking a massive hit.

I hate people that can't drive. Why are they licensed?
 
Got a call form the repair people. They have to replace the right rear axle and associated parts. Is there anything else I should have them do while it's apart?
 
When I snapped my axle they put a whole new rear housing in and replaced any seals, gaskets, etc... I jacked my rear end up pretty good though... snapped the axle and shifted my whole rear end over about 4 inches
