Diff and trans, need your guys opinions

So I came across a guy parting out a 2004 marauder with only 30k miles!! I know rite lol, so he's selling me the trans and rear end differential for 700$ for both... What do u Guys think? Is it worth it? Should I go for it? My car is an 2003 is there any difference between 03 and 04? Also what kind of mods can I do to the trans?? Please reply all opinions are welcome
 
I bought a 4R75W trans from a member here for $700. Its worth it. Your going to have to get a tuner and have setup for that trans.
 
Different number of pulses per revolution on the OSS. The '04 uses a 4R75W, the '03 uses a 4R70W. The '04 is a better transmission.
 
Supposedly, the guy I got the car from - original owner said he brought it back to the dealership excessively for the weak shift that our cars have stock. He bitched enough and to the right people that they stuck a tranny in. He said they put the 'next year's' model internals in it. When I PM'd RoyLPita before I bought the car, he mentioned it showed a lot of trips in for trans but I dont recall getting the definitive on if they used (or even if that's possible) the later model trans. I called the dealership and they even remembered this bozo. I swear I rescued this car from an undeserving Ahole. How can I find out if what he says was true? Thanks and sorry for threadjacking!
 
The dealer should be able to pull up what ever service records they have of the car being in for repairs.
