Encouraging News for Replacement OEM Tires

Thank you Sir, is your sig pic showing the new tires?

Negative, jimlam56, the sig pic has the OEM BFGs. I've not yet gotten the Coopers installed... plan on getting that done this week. I'll post some pics after I get 'em on the car.

bead protector?

These are exact OEM spec in every way and yes they look like the have a bead protector. (see close up pic on pg 1)

Can someone please illustrate what a bead protector looks like?...with a comparison to a tire without one? I can imagine what a bead protector looks like on a 4x4 type rock-crawler looks like, but not on a passenger car type tire.

With tire mounted on rim outside on rim lip will be raised to protect rim if you lightly rub against curb, ie just above bead on tire.

New Coopers Installed

UPDATE: Got the new Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires installed. I am very happy with them. They look good on the car, are the exact OEM sizes and specs, (yes they have a rim protector like the BFG) and ride really good. For those who want a good alternative to the BFG's the Coopers are the way to go. Of course they are brand new and we'll have to wait and see how well they hold up with time and mileage. I had the front end aligned with Carfixer's specs so hopefully I'll get lots of life outta them. For anyone who wants to know about the balancing characteristics of the tires I took note of how much weight each tire took. I was a bit surprised to see that they varied pretty widely from tire to tire.
L/H Front = 2.0 oz.
R/H Front = 3.25 oz.
L/H Rear = 4.25 oz.
R/H Rear = 2.25 oz.

Alignment

My dealer attempted to align to carfixer specs yesterday. These are my new Cooper Zeon RS3-A (all season), OEM factory sizes, OEM wheels. Service adviser said it was as close as they could get, as they were hindered by the limits of adjustment.

Bead Protectors?

Not much protection with either of these...the Coopers have more sidewall bulge and the BFG's have a puny rubber strip.

Any updates on these guys? Just wondering how y'all are liking them after a few days and miles have been put on.

In desperate need of some rears and am considering these but wanted to hear back before ordering. Really wish I could still get the Falken S/TZ01s in 255/55-18 still.

Overall I am pleased with the tires so far having them on for only 2 weeks and about 250 miles. I do get a small cyclic vibration in the steering wheel at 70+ mph. I'm unsure if this is due to any tire defect or less than optimal balancing but my gut tells me it's the latter.

I have had the same vibration through 2 sets of OEM tires.
Wondering if it is a power steering problem....

I'll be looking at Coopers soon...

nothing remarkable to report...

I cannot report anything bad about the Coopers. I have traveled on the freeway with them, but mostly around town (city driving). I suppose no news is good news.

The occasional minor vibration with these Coopers & OEM BFG's is not a concern to me. I believe it is probably (mostly) occurring with all the ruts in the asphalt from large trucks. I've never noticed it on concrete streets/highways.

As far a "...never curbed a wheel" or "...just don't hit anything", you white bread drivers must not do any sporty driving or two-tracking with your Nancy-boy Marauders. The Marauder was born for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Well, most people curb wheels when they are parking or slow-speed maneuvering around....curbs! A little caution and knowing your vehicle will keep it from happening. I push my car often, and with 174k miles it still drives like it was new. As far as being born for Pike's Peak, - Maybe if it had twice as much power and weighed half as much you could say that.

However if curbing is a problem for anyone, I suggest a set of these:
