Failed Inspection

Is the upstate inspection saftey only?

The downstate inspections also do the emissions.
Yeah I had my buddy do the inspection, It passed the emissions no problem via the plug in to the OBD port. And it didnt just pass because I know the guy. I asked him about this new emissions test via the cars computer and he said that cars 96 and newer get it in nys. Im not 100% sure if he is right but it seems to be.

in iowa the last 3 vehicle's ive owned have had no mufflers, cold air intakes, and extreamly bright lights (i dont know if that matters) and we have no inspections at all, if it runs, get some plates on it and go, go, go!!

That's because Iowa needs you to hurry up and get to the farm fields to cut some corn. Plus, in a pinch, your Marauder could be converted into a combine. ;)

(Sorry, I grew up in Nebraska. Just had to tease a fellow Midwesterner.)

The car needs to complete a full 30min OBDII driving cycle before the system not-ready 'code' clears.

This consisits of:
Not starting the vehilce for 8 hours, then;
First: 10minutes of highway/freeway driving
Next: at least 20mins of stop and go city-type driving, with at least 4 idle periods

The engine must reach normal operating temps during this. Also, do not shut the car off during the cycle.

Kindof a PITA, but this is the exact Ford procedure to 'ready' the OBDII diagnositc system. It will probably just be easier to drive normally for a few days.

Next time leave the tune on, you'll be fine. If you decide to flash it back, make sure it is a few days before.

Mine had not been driven in nearly two months...traveled 6.1 miles to the testing station, which included two WOTs, one burnout, one left turn, four right turns, one model confusion, and two compliments.

It passed.

Oh yeah...the N20 was armed as well. ;)

:dunno:

in NYS '96 and newer vehicles just get the OBDII inspection, older vehicles still get the rolling test and if you are over 20 or 25 years (i think) it is just a visual inspection for $10, I owned a '66 mustang convertible and that was the cheapest thing that car ever needed

Yeah, My '65 T-Bird get the old lights test and tire kick....

Emmisions from it will kill you in 5 minutes flat!

The car only needs to complete the OBDII driving cycle if the PCM KAM has been reset (ie battery disconnect, reflash, etc.)

It can sit for a year if you want, so long as the battery had not been disconnected, it is still 'ready'

Drock96 is correct. And hte OBD-II Drive cycle is complete, well, when its complete. I have seen it done in 5 miles, I've seen it done in 50 miles. Depends on how sensitive the PCM is.

the car passed this weekend....i drove it about 120 miles in a weeks time and it passed..forgot how awful the stock tune was....switched back to lidio's tune right after the inspection
