As I understand it this also tells the spammer this is a verifiable email address and then they can sell it for more money. Catch-22.It is possible that if you recently made a purchase online, that the company sold your email (if you gave it out) to other companies.
If you look at the bottom of some of the spam emails, there should be an "Unsubscribe" button. You can click to opt-out. There may also be the name of the company (or companies) that have been sending you the spam. You can investigate from there.
What Mr. Man said...NEVER hit the unsubscribe button unless it's from a reputable company.
