Getting Gears Installed Friday...

KillJoy

Sorry..... but my Give A Damn Broke..
Well, I get a set of NIB FR 4.10's, a Girdle and a Stud Kit a good while ago.

I am having them installed this coming Friday.

I still need to get everything else needed.......tell me if I am missing anything:

Bearing Kit (Jegs p/n: 397-M-4210-B)
Gear Lube (From Ford)
Friction Modifier (From Ford)
RTV Sealant

Can anyone provide the P/N's for the Ford parts I am needing? Am I missing anything?

Killjoy,

Ditch the nasty RTV sealant and go pick up a NAPA "Victor Reinz tuffcork" gasket for about $7.00.

Trust me, the next time you change the gear fluid, you'll be glad you went with the NAPA gasket. I've used them in 5 Panthers with ZERO problems whatsoever. They've very nice gaskets and worth every dime. In fact, I just used one yesterday on my Marauder when I changed out the gear oil. I used Royal Purple 75W90, btw. I'm sure 75W140 would work just as well, too.

Also, if you go with Royal Purple gear oil, you won't need to add any friction modifier. Just a thought for you to consider.

Here are the gaskets. This picture shows the old and new packaging. The one on the right is the new packaging. Either way, it's the same gasket.

By the way, how much are you paying for the installation?

I'm still kicking around the idea of putting in the 4.10s I previously purchased. Just haven't decided to do it yet.

The updated Ford Spec calls for 75W-140 "High Peformance Lubricant" (synthetic)...any reputable oil brand will do. I use Royal Purple in mine.

4.10 = Rear End gears.

You can get one get a set from Several of our Vendors here. (Reinhart or Innovative Interceptors) Not sure if any other Vendors here sell them.

Is it OK to use a synthetic immediately on new gears or should they use a traditional gear oil with the additive for break-in. Then change out around 400-500 miles and then go with the synthetic.

Just asking as it look like I will be doing gears this spring.

:bump: :bump: :bump:

I opted to go with the Ford Gear Lube and Friction Modifier.

Two bottles of lube and 1 of modifier. Total cost was $12.

I am going to go an pick up one of those NAPA Gaskets tonight.

The Bearing Kit is set to arrive today from Summit (Jegs was on back order). Shipped yesterday. It's nice being in the same State :D
