Just a reminder to those that will go through Canada to cross into Detroit, or those that plan to cross over from MVlll to look around, Check with your insurance company. They will issue you a, "Canada Non-Resident inter-province motor vehicle liability insurance card".
I called my insurance company to be sure we are covered for out of country, and they mailed me the card the next day.

IIRC: Passports aren't required til '08 and birth certificates are required if children are coming.

And don't forget your passport or birth certificate.

Bring your passports, border guards are getting cranky these days post 9-11, nevermind all this new London crap.

Yes I know that but in '08 Passports will be the only accepted form.

CANADA – Passport or proof of U.S. citizenship such as a birth certificate, naturalization certificate, and photo ID required. Minors (under 16) traveling alone or in someone else's custody must present written authorization, signed before a notary, from the parent(s) or guardian. Visas are not required.

Yes, you are correct. What I posted are the current requirements, but my point is, you need proof of citizenship. Don't show up empty-handed or you'll have to go the long way around.

If you can remember it, fill up in Buffalo and avoid paying the high price for Canadian gas. Also, I always cross the border at Port Hurn, not Detroit. The border crossing is usually quicker there and I can get out of Ontario and use my radar detector sooner.
