Headlamps

Need an opinion. Came across a set of new factory headlamps for my car for about $300. Does it seem like a good deal? I need to get mine replaced and I don't want to put after market ones. Let me know what you think. TIA

I think that's a great deal. I paid $145 each from a good friend at the dealer I used to work at. If that price includes shipping it's a steal.

I bought a set earlier this year from here:

https://www.tousleyfordparts.com

Came out to $310, including shipping. Just make sure whoever you buy from, if they are the 2004 model to get the dust covers; they're like a large rubber lid, similar to what goes on cans of tennis balls/Pringles. You can get these at a Ford dealership for 7 bucks/pair.

$300 is a good price, if they're OEM for the Marauder.

Good call on the dust covers, I heard some members didn't get them with their new lights. 2003 has hard plastic dust covers and 2004 has a rubber dust cover.com

I bought the Depot ones on ebay for like 220 shipped. It was one of the best improvements I have made to this car. I couldnt believe how trashed the OEM lenses where!

How so? I didn't think HIDs would be illegal, unless you have the blue/purple/green/yellow lights in 'em....

I don't think they are legal unless they are in the cars that come in them from factory because they have an auto leveling device made for them in the factory units

HID's in an OEM housing not designated for HID use is 100% illegal in all 50 states. DOT and NHTSA rules...

Projector retrofits are legit however.

DOT and NHTSA do not recognize retrofits being acceptable when placed in an original designed halogen housing. Are they less likely to be cited for violation, yes. DOT and NHTSA currently have no ruling on replacing a halogen projector with a real HID projector. Upgrading a halogen projector with an HID bulb is illegal also but still very unlikely to be cited for a violation for it.

The 03 model has hard plastic caps that screw/lock onto the back of the bulb housing (see pics).

The 04 model has a rubber lid that snaps in place, sort of like a tupperware/cool whip container. (sorry, no pics of those)

Incidentally, I have a set of 03 headlamp assemblies with brand new wiring harnesses that are in need of restoration. If anyone is interested in them, PM me an offer.
