How does one get jurry duty defered or dismissed?

Under the influence of boost
Just got a leter from the Thurston County Superior court that says I have been randomly selected for jury duty from the 15 - 19th of August.

I have an approved military leave form with the address from the hotel and the dates showing that I will be out of state. Any sound advise would be HIGHLY appreciated.

I have ben planning on MM-ville III longer than they have had me picked for jury duty.

I take my Bible...sit there and read it in plan view of everyone....never spent more than 30 minutes there.

Copy the letter and send it back with the invite.
Also write your own letter of explaination.

Make sure you send it in Certified Mail with a Return Receipt,
and photocopy all of your documents.

You should be fine when they realize you have been serving our country,
and you are on leave during that time.

Go to the court house and just show your military ID they should let you off.
Tell them your active duty or a researve on active.

I've also been dismissed by showing pre paid reservations.

But your ID card is all you need.

If your out of state there should be some boxes on the form (back) for requesting dismissle.

Normally, a simple statement that you are on active duty with the military is sufficient. Our county includes a return notification form for such purposes.

If you are USAR or ARNG, you will have to try a different tactic. I'd suggest writing a short and sweet letter to the Clerk of the Court for Thurston County indicating your plans, military status and leave request, and the non-refundable deposits incurred. State that you would be more than willing to perform your civic duty in September or immediately upon your return. I would also note that your absence is for a highly important annual national event that has been planned for a long time.

Just request a deferrment and hope that cool heads and reason prevail. :D

I have been dismissed for being an engineer, a mechanic, and a minister, but that's after I have shown up and been interviuewed. I have also called and simply said, "I'm going on vacation" and been told not to show up.

My advice is to call first and see what they say. It really depends on the court that has summoned you.

Call or write them (registered/certified) inform them you are on active duty. If your NG or Reserves, proof of call up for that period is required.

That will be that. Matter of fact, you'll probably never get called again. They called on me once while in the Navy, let them know I was active duty, thanks have a nice day. I've been out 12 years, still haven't got called on.

Of course blurting out " I can spot a guilty person a mile away" as loud as you can day one, will do the trick as well :)

If they start giving you crap, which they wont, just tell them you always go for the bad guy because you hate cops.....DISMISSED!!!!!!

I've had the privilege of serving on three petite juries here in NW Louisiana. It's the judge that actually does the dismissing based upon several factors. among them are age, hardship, medical, military commitments and so on. If the jury pool is large then excusal's may be liberal. One sould be very careful about how one speaks to the court (including mail) because one may be held in contempt. life goes down hill from there. Sounds like you have a reasonable excuse, based on my experience in my neck of the woods.

I once told a judge that I knew a lot of cops and I thought they were too busy to arrest innocent people.

Give him the home game!

Thanks everybody. I think I should be able to pull this off.

I don't mind being summoned under normal circumstances, but NOT during Marauder Ville.

Been Excused From Jury Duty

Teamrope: Been excused from Jury Duty a number of times. Courts have the option of granting you a waiver or a postponement. Contact the court or go take a ride over to the courthouse, and wear your uniform when you go. -kjs-

You're out of line, Dan. I've read your posts for years and have always thought you were funny but pretending to be physically challenged is over the top. Shame on you!!

LMAO-ROFL

Can't carry arms anymore

My status is officially non-combatant since being commissioned as a chaplain in 92, but from 87-91, carried arms as a Marine. No offense taken. Every time a Marine or Sailor passes me on the ship with a weapon I make it a point to bless what I call "the tools of freedom." They are happy when I do. One of my chaplains used to bless our weapons back in my day. Picked it up from him. -kjs-
