Last run of the Crown Rauder

Congrats on the twin screw!

The twin screw will go well w/ a built short block.

Are you selling your Vortec? How many miles on the Vortec?

I think Vortec charges $1,200 for a rebuild/upgrade.

The Vortech is air-water intercooled and has 21k miles on it. Work is picking up so when time permits I'll be pulling the vortech setup off the car as well as the methanol kit.

Thanks for all the well-wishes and PMs on the car. We'll be getting the car in the shop later this week and start getting the engine tore down to try and determine the cause and extent of the failure. We're hoping the damage is all in the bottom end, the big question is if the heads are damaged too. Its just a matter of taking it one step at a time and planning each step's options. My goal is stronger, faster, safer.

On a side note it could have been much worse because at the 1/8th I'm usually around 93mph or so and if oil got under the wheels it may have gone a bit squirrelly.
Actualy later that day a fox body lifted the front and came down on the jersey barriors. hope you have a quick recovery and more fun getting kicked out!

Oil pump failure due to detonation. What casued the detonation?

Fuel pump failure, IC pump failure, bad race gas....................?

Meth Injection??

I have followed these engine failures closely and many seem to have meth injection particularly the higher HP engines. I wonder if there may be a connection?? I almost went the Meth route myself, but deceided against it at the last moment before I went to Lidio's last year.

I run the race tune for 40+ HP, but use 100% 101 octane for 50 miles before I get to the track to insure it is all good gas in the lines. I will admit the car really launches noticeably stronger off the line with the race tune. I will be going to FFW June 13-14 hopefully some other MMs can also attend.

There are just too many things that could have caused detonation I don't know where to start. I just replaced the tensioner and belt so there was zero slippage, the air temp was low 40 so it was nice and dense pushing full boost, the race fuel used may very well have been sitting in the station's tank all winter and been leftover stuff from last year, I haven't tested the fuel pump but the IC and methanol pumps were good. There was no smoking gun.

I'm now concentrating on the rebuild project which is coming along nicely and believe me, all the potential weak links will be inspected. If all goes well the car should be back on the road later this summer and after a little break-in and familiarization time it will be back on the track in the fall.

CrownRauder will become KingRauder cause it will own all, at least at Crapitol lol.

Good to hear things are coming along, hope you meet your goal to be back on the road by late summer.

Good, I am looking forward to the progress reports.

I remember reading an article by MFF about a Lightning called the white refrig. They blew an engine at the track near the start. They assumed they just pushed the engine two hard. Rebuilt it stronger and brought it to a well known tuner for tuning.

The tuner on the dyno shut it down, it went lean due to a bad fuel pump relay.

Point being they put back in a stronger engine and had they not been careful a relay would have blown the stronger engine.
