Lighting Control Module Recall

Hot off the press! Ford just announced a recall 14N01 for extended coverage on LCM's for 15 years or 250,000 miles on 2003-2005 Crown Vics and Grand Marquis/Marauder. This does not mean they are replacing all of them. Only if the headlamp off condition exists. Refunds are available for those who have replaced the LCM's if you can provide a reciept to your local dealer who will administrate the refund. They will not refund for a LCM "repair". This is a bummer for most of us who fixed our own. Good luck guys!

Holy crap, finally they did something of moral value. I wonder if they are replacing it with another 10A relay? I could care less about the $10(even cheaper off of ebay) spent to permanently fix it.

^^^^^ What size relay should have been used? Is there a way to tell what size relay the LCM has by looking at it or do you need to open it up?

wow, this is good news for us procrastinators:)

Mine didn't start going until last year and then only once in a while. Lately its been happening more and more. It seems if I turn my brights on, then the left hand turn signal they go back on - most of the time. But I was just facing the fact I would need to fix it.

Im not sure what size should have been used, but the stock one is rated for 10A. The relay you need to have me fix it for free;) is a 30/40A relay and a harness. It doesnt matter if they are 'heavy duty' because your not going to ever pull close to 30 or 40 Amps through it.if you guys need more help finding the relay, search ebay for' 30/40 amp relay with harness'. A 4 or 5 pin relay will work, the 5th pin has nothing going to it, therefore ill just cut the harnesses wire for that pin. Its so easy, ever cer0413 can do it:D...i showed him how in Louisville.

The driving lights didn't always come on, wasn't the bulbs, now I haven't noticed them on in a long time. (High beams off!)

Try tapping the LCM. If the lights start working the LCM needs to be repaired or replaced.

Maybe they just plug in that Dorman LCM repair part (made now with a Ford logo?..LOL )that goes between the LCM and the harness connectors? It has a relay embeded in it to take the place of the internal one.

I do believe one of the cars had one done at the dealer for about $500. I'll have to go through 11 years of receipts now...

Power for the running lights goes through a separate relay in the LCM than the headlight relay, so you can lose running lights just as you can lose headlights when a relay in the LCM fails. I have replaced two of the four relays in the LCM in one of our GMs (One for the headlights. one for the running lights).

My lights turned off ONCE. Good enough for me to get a new free one.

They ought to announce a recall on the crappy paint jobs......
