Marauder = 57 Chevy?

I have heard this a few times from "Old Timers" as THEY like to call themselves. "The Marauder is the modern 57 Chevy. It's the coolest car in quite a while and will be a very popular collectors car. People might not understand now, but they will later."

I have heard this statement by multiple people in their 50s and 60s. I know they have seen the 57 Chevy rise up to a collector car. Does anyone agree with this statement or feel the same way? I'm uncertain about this.

I have never heard this and I do not think the Marauder will ever be as iconic as a '57 Chevy is.

FWIW I hate the tri-5 Chevys.

It's a nice thought but 11,052 vs probably over a million, nope don't think so...

The '82-'93 Mustang is the modern '55-'57 Chev... A complete aftermarket grew up around them...

Yep, or even the Honda Civic has been compared to it. The 57 Chevy was popular because there were alot of them and they were cheap and easy to build. The Marauder is none of those things.

An interesting tidbit I heard from a 57 owner but I've never been able to verify. There were ~47,000 57 convertibles built but there are more than that titled today due to the number of conversions done. Pretty popular car to grow in numbers over the year...

There is no "modern-day" '57 Chevy, and I would question the logic of anyone who even makes that statement.
Cars back then- the way they were produced, the way they were advertised, heck even the way people drove, was very different and cannot be duplicated.

There may be a modern car or two that might remind one of certain traits of a '57 Chevy, but to call anything being made today "the modern" version is laughable.

And just for the record I like '55s and '56s better than the '57. But that's just me.

A what!

Not to rain on your parade Motorhead but I for one have not heard that comparison? Maybe it's a midwest thing?

I have no issues with car people making statements like that however we all know opinon's are like azzholes....everyone has one:)

I myself would never compare a Chevy to a Ford, Dodge,Honda, etc except like models for reasons of buying one. That said I guess it all the the mindset of the person who makes the statements look at it.

To each his own!

FYI the one comparsion I dislike the most is usally at the pumps by someone driving a eco-box saying to me..."nice car I bet is sucks gas?" or Cool looking old police car, nice job filling in all the holes, how did you get the donut smell out of it?

In cases like the this it is simple better to just (in my case) stare down and them and give 'em the a brief history of the mercury marauder!

Jim, someone first said that to me in Florida, so I guess it's a Dirty South thing.

I wish I had someone ask me something like that at the gas pump. I have a number of answers...

No sir, it's better TO gas then your car, here's your sign.

Never heard of the comparison, but I truly believe 30 plus years from now the MERCURY MARAUDER will be a collector, and if not I don't care it's valuable to me!

The tri-5 Chevys are in a class all by themselves when it comes to iconic cars.

I've always liked 'em, but the '56 is my favorite year.

Us old timers love the 55-57 Chevy because most of us owned one or had a close friend that had one.

(I fall in both categories. I had a 57 BelAir 4dr hardtop, three speed Hurst, 283/220 powerpack; my friend, Jerry, had a 57 BelAir convert, 1958 Buick grille, station wagon bumper; my buddy Bobby had a 55 2 dr sedan, hot rod; another Bobby had a 57 BelAir hardtop, which blew the doors off my 57. Nobody had 56's.)

Not the same with the Marauder.

Keep dreaming
no one cares.
This chassis platform is to me the best. Full frame, full size, RWD, V8, etc., etc.
Plenty of parts, easy to work on, safe, reliable, etc., etc.
We all know why these cars are awesome, otherwise we wouldn't be here.
But The MM is not a Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe or a Boss 429 Mustang or a 427 SOHC drag car.
It is a Grand Marquis with FACTORY performance, handling, interior and exterior modifications.
I already voiced my opinion on why I think these cars are great, so don't get the wrong idea. But I'm pretty sure a MM is not a tri-5 Chev no matter how much someone wants to pretend that it is....
Maybe for that person it represents that sort of thing but that is not the popular view (like sXe).
Dom, if the MM is your '57 Chevy then more power to you.....
I don't see the resemblance but if you do, then good for you.
In fact, I wanna see gold fins on your car ASAP

Nope... Keepin' mine! 2nd Owner and paid half of what it was originally from Dealership floor with a new TwinScrew so WIN-WIN for me!

Rob, I think you are kinda missing the point. The statement has nothing to do with looks of the car.

Old Timers... thanks for your info. In the end it's all opinion I suppose, but 57s are in demand. Fact. Hmmmmmm confusing.

Nope.
It's not a '57 Chevy no matter how hard you wish it was.

YOU were the one who said that people SAW the car, and made the comment.
Since I'm going to assume that they weren't blindfolded, I'm going to say that they made the comment after seeing the car.
Therefore the look of the car influenced the decision to some degree.

Now obvious troll is obvious, so that's all i gotta say about that.
