It's Time!!! Marauderville 15 in 2017 !!!

The time to plan Marauderville 15 is upon us!! Can you believe it's been fifteen years since some of us met in Ennis, TX at the "Marauder Round-up!" !!

Here are the criteria and timeframe for proposals. MM.Net Administration will review the proposals, which must be submitted by March 1, 2017. Look for an announcement in Late March 2017 for MV15!! (email address below)

Criteria for Marauderville 15

Lodging
Hotel must be affordable. Someone MUST make an on-site visit to determine available facilities.
Amenities: King and Two Queen rooms; High Speed Internet (preferably at no extra charge); dining room, banquet facility, bar all on-site or within close proximity; pool preferred.
The hotel must be able to offer a block of no less than 40 rooms and have ample parking. Security is a high priority.

Itinerary
¼ or 1/8 mile drag strip, Road course or oval track within a reasonable distance and the cost of use. Test and Tune is a very affordable option. Not a requirement but the Members do enjoy the opportunity.

Things to see and do: plant/factory tours, museums, breweries, local culture, Cruises, anything automotive and/or transportation related a plus.

Car Show with awards

Maraudervilles have traditionally been a Thursday through Sunday event, though other days to fit a specific scheduled event would be fine. Early Fall would be ideal, although other times will be considered depending on circumstances such as events we can piggyback on.

Consider the distances needed to travel in between itinerary locations as well as traffic and turns.

Down time and time to socialize are important so there's no need to fill every minute of the day.

Responsibilities of Planning Team

  • Communication and follow-through are the most important tasks for the Team. MM.Net will provide a closed forum for the Planning Team so all communications and tracking are in once place.
  • Site visits to potential hotels and all proposed venues.
  • Contact and pricing for awards. If you have no one local, we can provide info from prior vendors that served us well.
  • T-shirt design: The Planning Team should come up with a design/logo concept that the graphic artist can create. Local design and screen printing is fine. Deadline for final graphic is critical to the timeline.
  • Contact Supporting Vendors and local area businesses and Chamber of Commerce for support of MV15.
  • Manage as a team any fundraising opportunities to help reduce the cost of Registration for Attendees.

Proposal:

  • Planning team names, phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Very tentative itinerary.
  • Hotel options and pricing.
  • Projected costs for any itinerary options such as admissions, fees, rentals, meals, catering, insurance, etc. It is OK to suggest "meal on your own."
  • Use 100 people as a guideline for costs.
  • Relate why you feel Marauderville 15 should be at your location. What makes it “special & unique”?

Any members of previous planning teams would be more than happy to share their experiences. Mary also works closely with the team, drawing on her 15 years of planning experience. MM.Net pays all the bills and if you must front money, you will be reimbursed with receipts. MM.Net manages the Eventbrite and PayPal functions. MM.Net also contributes financially, using the Membership and Vendor funds collected throughout the year to help reduce the Attendees out of pocket costs.

Please submit your proposal to MM.Net@MercuryMarauder.Net by March 1, 2017.

The most important part of planning and execution is a dedicated group of people - doesn't need to be many - that can follow through with all aspects of the event. Also, not everyone on the Planning Team needs to live in the proposed Host Site.

If you have any questions, please email MM.Net@MercuryMarauder.Net or talk to Dan or Mary.

Update:

No proposals or even discussions have materialized for Marauderville 15. Such a milestone year. Since no local few have stepped forward, would a few interested people from around the country be willing to join forces for what will be the Last Marauderville? Almost all of the organizing can be done on the phone and email. A walk-though of the hotel to confirm amenities would be the only necessary in-person task.

Any ideas or volunteers? Please chime in here or send me a PM.

Thank you!!

A last Hurrah ??????

My Dear Friend, Mary, Has it really been that long ? It seems like yesterday that a group of people bought a black car that that Mercury called "the First Hot Rod of the 21st Century" and in the first year of sales managed to put together a convention of 57 Marauders from 23 states in Texas ( 2 were already supercharged) .Police escorts because they thought we were President Bush's new Secret Service cars.
Marty O's visit changed his life ( right Marty ?) Logan was the power behind the whole thing.Anybody know where Logan is now ? We all owe him a lot. Indy the next year--over 100 Marauders . Detroit next with over 90 cars. I guess the most fun was 18 Marauders in caravan for over 100 miles at 80+ and 1/2 car length between us. By this time we had developed into one of the greatest families--a bunch of best friends. Chat nite we stayed up til after midnight to shoot the breeze . Local groups were filling car shows with over 20 Marauders at a time. Sponsors were giving away superchargers (right Mary ?). Do you know how many of the first 100 members of MM.net still own their Marauders ? Well, I have to sign off for now. To all you great folks that helped change my life---Thanks.It's hard to say goodby to a Golden Era but time passes and lives change To all you present Marauder owners I wish you the best of luck and remember----drive safely, but with Gusto !!! So long for now, Cruzer (Maury) :burnout:

We never had a New England Marauderville. Any retired people in say...Massachusetts that might want to look into putting one together?:dunno:

My Mustang club has attended several national shows hosted at the Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference center, in Sturbridge Mass. This hotel is awesome. It is on a lake, with a great colonial restaurant on the property. The parking lots are huge. It is 10 minutes from Old Sturbridge Village.

The Mustang Club of New England has been the host club.

Must be a popular or convenient spot for car and motorcycle clubs. I stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Sturbridge, MA two years ago enroute to a one-week vacation in Rockland, ME. Harley owners were all over the place. The Hampton is about 1/4 mile from the conference center. It's a full days drive from Virginia via I-81, I-78, I-287, and CT15. Planned for 8 hours ... Took us 12 with traffic. CT and MA drivers suck. Nice location; but I didn't see much for activities in that area.

We did a Rusty Wallace NASCAR driving experience at Stafford race track. The track is not that far from Sturbridge, about 20 miles. You take Rt 19 and you are there.

Doesn't have to be a new location, re-do a previous MV. It will be new to most of the attendees and the fun level will be the same no matter what.

I had so much fun at the 4 I've attended I wouldn't mind re-doing Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, etc. H3LL ofagreattime!

Golden Colorado there's a drag strip brewery, Denver pikes peak scenery every third weekend there's a very large car meet

I've only been to a few, but have had fun at all. If a repeat is OK, and you think this might be the last year, why not finish it where it all began, Texas.

Just a thought.

Late October or early November; just a thought
