2003 Trim and Paint Matrix

I haven't seen this posted before, but with 2003 certificate, Ford Performance provided the 2003 build numbers by interior and exterior colors.

VIN Decoding

Got my cert today. It came w/a VIN decoder that differentiates the Grand Marquis (M75) from the Marauder (M79). Although I am certain I own a Marauder, my VIN number includes M75. Can anyone clear up the discrepancy?

This might explain why the dealers keep asking me to bring in my Grand Marquis for service!

Yes it does.

The Marauder did not have its own VIN identifier in 2003 and it shared the M75 Grand Marquis code. They fixed this in 2004 by starting the M79 series.

Does it say "Marauder" on the rear bumper, and does it have a 4V engine in it?

If it does, it's a Marauder.

If it doesn't, then it's a Grand Marquis

I have an '04 and the dealer still refers to it as a GM.

Rest assured you have an authentic Marauder. The only way to get a certificate is to give Ford a legitimate VIN.

Don't take my tounge-in-cheek post earlier as a dig on you, the confusion you mentioned was quite common with the '03's, and like Jim said, to this day, some folks just figure the Marauder is nothing more than a fancy trim level for the GM. :rolleyes:
 
Another way to find the build #?

I have not posted on the site until now but I have had my '03 since January. I love it! I was wondering if there was another (free) way to determine the build number of your car? Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

Been a while since this thread started and anyone posted. Just got my Marauder and looking to get the Birth Certificate. Is the certificate I saw someone order from FordShowParts.com the same as the Ford Performance Info Center (800) FORD-788?
