My 04 came equipped with the "factory" moon roof. We all know it was just installed at the factory by a non-ford vendor. I don't recall the company's name.
After 14 years of trouble free operation my son noticed a small puddle of water on the center console. Looking further he discovered the overhead lamp/drive console was filled with water. He then discovered the moon roof had not fully closed. It had rained the previous night.
Efforts to get the moon roof to seat closed were unsuccessful, The sliding access door would not fully open seems to be an obstruction at the rear. The moon roof would thus not fully open. Also it would not dock fully closed. The drive mechanism did, however, move the moon roof forward and backward OK.
Repeated cycling of the moon roof disclosed the mechanism would fail to fully open and dock fully closed.
My guess is that the mechanism jumped a track or a plastic part broke off causing the obstruction and track jumping.
What to do? Prolly a visit to the Collision center.
