My Dyno Day

duhtroll

If it weren't for my horse...
Howdy all -

I hadn't done a dynotune since the exhaust, CAI, TC, and pulleys, so I decided to head over to a guy who has his own shop, on the recommendation of someone I trust.

It was about a 3.25 hour drive out there which was pretty enjoyable despite the light rain that ruined my nice detail job I did a couple days ago. :o

This guy's shop is impressive - At least two Camaros, two Mustangs, a Lightning, an Impy SS, an RX-7 that was gonna get an LS2 IIRC, and 4 Firebirds of various years were in attendance, as well as shelves full (to the ceiling) of new and used/rebuilt blocks, trannys, and various other parts. All right in his backyard. It's a good thing I didn't have any more money or I woulda walked out with the V-10 he had on the shelf.

"It'll fit." :burnout:

Anywho, a couple leisurely hours and four pulls later the Bluesmobile is putting out ~290HP and ~303TQ at the wheels. nice numbers for me. No waiting in line, no hurry up when I was there, and good company to talk to.

Mac stopped by for a visit while I was there - good to see you again and thanks as always for the advice to a non-mechanic.

As if a sign from above, the first stoplight on the way home near Freeport, up pulls next to me a yellow Lancer Evo with two kids grinning at my car. Then 10 seconds later in the rear view was a yellow Lancer Evo with two kids, I'm betting with surprised looks on their faces.

The way home on US 20 through Galena area is twisty and hilly - a lot of fun on a nice day, and today was a nice day. I had some kid in a small Beemer sedan (never could keep those models straight - they all look the same to me) try to lose me in the curves, only to have me stay about 6-8 car lengths back no matter what he tried. No suspension upgrades here, so I suspect he just wasn't a very good driver since he couldn't stay in his lane - kept going over the outer line, though I had no problem. Just before the Mississippi I pass him (he had slowed by this point - not racing) as if to say "nice try."

Pretty good day for me!

-A

Glad someone noticed it!

He also mentioned he had a stock new GT 500 there a little while back and from the factory the A/F line was PERFECT all the way through the run - even flatter than mine in the chart.

So at least Ford did THAT right with the new one.

Now that is one Perfect A/F mixture line

Congrats Andrew.

Those are some nice numbers and if that A/F line was any flatter we would have to call a code blue.

Just got home myself, another 250 plus mile one-day road trip down in my '06 travel book.

It was great to catch up with you again, -A, and those numbers are very good for your level of mods. A lot has changed for both of us since Rock Island, eh?

Okay folks, the question of the day...What mods can Andrew get next that buys him 12 RWHP and 15 RWTQ, to move our factory brake power numbers to the rear wheels? Under 100 bucks too, would be nice.

We talked about the water pump, but as we also talked about, I'd have to carry two of them so the car could be fixed ASAP if/when the first one breaks. So that's a possibility.

Flux capacitor?

Of course, a 75-shot would do the trick . . .

Great numbers, reminds me of my N/A numbers and it makes for a very fun car to drive, congratulations!!!

nice. so when you go to a dyno, they can tune your car as well? and would they use your xcal or do they do it their own way

A "dyno tune" implies they make adjustments to your tune. A "dyno run" is only the measurement phase. Tuning usually means they have their own equipment to make the adjustments.

My first idea was to run the rpm out to 6600, but it looks close to that already:alone:

Looking at the dyno graph it appears "to fall on it's face" above 5100 rpm is this characteristic of the na engine? I thought the 4V motor was supposed to breath well and not fall off at high rpm?

Since the A/F looks good, throwing more MAF, or injectors will not help. (and out of the low cost option)

About the only idea I can contribute is a few gallons of 110 octane and a few more degrees of timing:(
