NA MuscleMerc catchcan owners

I was going to mention that. There are actually a lot of us running two breathers.

I ran breathers for a short while after my Eaton swap, but got some fumes in the cabin at stop lights/signs, so I went back to a PCV set up with the catch can. I like the looks, and it is trapping some blow by. Is it a "feel good"? Maybe, but I'm happy with it, so good enough.

My engine has some miles on it and I get a lot of blow-by because I know the rings are worn. Having the catch can is more of a need in my eye in my situation. I cleaned the intake manifold when ImpalaSlayer took it off for me and it was pretty bad @ 150k miles but could of been worse. Oil vapor being sucked back into the intake manifold is one thing, straight up oil being pulled back into it is another.

bolsen ... I also want to instal a Metco breather.
If you're interested, I have one that I bought when they 1st came-out and never installled/used it that I'd like to sell. Send me a PM with your ship-to city and ZipCode and I'll give you a price.

I have a Musclemerc Catch Can and it works great. The big thing about it is that you must maintain it. It's not plug and play. I found that out the hard way and since then have been tending to it religiously. To me, it's better than have a boat load of oil in the upper hat and intake.

PCV fumes are predominantly water vapor with some light boiling petroleum distillates (BLOWBY) and NONE of this will hurt a thing in your intake unless you take it off to show people how it looks inside??

My engine is very old with ultra-high mileage and never had a "catch can" N/A for 84K miles or the subsequent 155K miles Supercharged and I have had no problems with my intake or consuming "blowby" through the PCV!!:shake:

This is just another "Feel Good Mod" IMHO since PCV setups have been on billions of cars & trucks since the '60's with no apparent problems!!!

Heretic! Burn the Wizzard!

Bingo. The catch can is only needed on a sick motor. It does not cure the sickness, just reduces a symptom.

Open breathers will allow air into the engine that does not go through the MAF. Un-metered air going into the intake will lead to a lean condition.

Not true guys.

I am the one that permanately banned him, and told him the reasons while on the phone with him.

Moving right along.

;)

Mike.

My first thought was great job, but then it dawned on me that there hasn't been as much fun since the "I got Screwed by Reinhart" posts, which we had enjoyed for so many years, ended. Dennis

Yes and no. There is a lot of LS motor owners and Hemi motor owners that use a catch can from the start or even when the motor is in top running shape.

This may be true, but, my MM had more than it's share of oil in the intake with the stock motor, and less than 17k on it.

I do not get that much out of my catch cans that are on there now, but it is just a preventative measure.

I totally disagree with that, these engines are notorius for creating an oil slick in the intake!

Dont believe me? pull any lid off of a 4.6l dohc engine and take a look! healthy engine, or not your going to see oil!

catch a can

pLEASE DON'T TELL MY mARAUDER SHE NEEDS ONE,I have 122K on her now and she has done a real dandy job for me over the last eight and a half years.
Did I ever say I have raced this ride in seven states and over 500 passes?
Blo by this:censor:

+1 The PCV is only closed when under heavy load, idle and cruising it's open.

Only if you have one breather open to the air and one to the intake tract. If both pcv valve cover openings are open to the air, NO unmetered air enters the inake tract. Period.
