my engine builder ordered main bolts from ARP for my engine. the studs that go into the bottom of the main caps are the correct ones but the side cap bolts are 8mm and are too small. the other option was 9mm bolts but they would be another 7-10 days to get from ARP. soo....i had my parts guy look up Ford bolts and they list 8mm side bolts for the mercury marauder.??

does anyone have another source to purchase these main cap bolts from? my engine has been at this shop for months now and i'd like to get it back together ASAP.

You can get them from ford and pay a fortune.
You can get new ones from MMR for a lot as well
.....or you can reuse your old ones contrary to what everyone says.

I won't reuse them.

For less than $50.00 I'd replace them and not take the chance of them failing later on.

Wow nice find fastblackmerc. Just recently those were not available as a kit, and priced individually they were all well over 200 dollars

no doubt. 200 dollars for the set and thats my cost.
i won't reuse them for 2 reasons. peace of mind and my engine builder won't warranty the short block if they reuse them.

i called the ford racing tech hotline about part # m-6345-a46 and all they state is that they fit the 4v 4.6 aluminum block. they won't give me a spec on the bolts. i don't want to guess at this and get another set of 8mm bolts.

apparrantly there is an old model and new model transition period from 8mm to 9mm side bolts but all the searching i haven't been able to find any info of 9mm bolts

the original ones are torque to yield so i don't want to reuse.
thanks for the info. i'll look into that

But you still have them to match up the threads correct?

You should be able to get the 8.8 metric bolts in any good hardware store. Even the big box stores carry them.
