Need help with window motor

Front passenger window motor went out today.

Upon disabling the motor and getting the window shut, we cannot get the motor out.

I have removed the three bolts and the motor is moving around freely, but the cable is keeping it in. I do not know how to remove the cable or get it detached to get the motor out.

Also the spring is broken now too. Not the one connected to the cable, but the one attached to a black plastic piece behind the motor.

How does all of this come out? Is the broken spring part of the assembly of the motor or is this another part I need to acquire?

Dom,

I believe you need a new regulator, the motor is probably fine, but the cable should not be wrapped around anything, unless of course, the regulator is broken.

This. It's most likely the regulator.

I always get them Regulator w/ Motor Assembly.

Usually if a cable breaks in the regulator, the cable will get wrapped/bound up in the motor gear. In most cases, the window glass will be free to move by hand because there's nothing holding it up. If you try to cycle the switch and you hear the motor power up along with cable crunching noises, you have a regulator failure. If you hear nothing, most likely the electric motor is seized.
 
Ive had this problem before and just reconnecting the wires made it work again. Blackened300a said if you hold up on the switch and slam the passenger door it usually will get it working again.
 
Window motor out... now what?

I decided to put the interior back together after testing the window will stay up with vice-scripts. :lol: The tool is not grabbing the glass, the only tool that touched the glass was me.

It looks like nothing is broken. I thought plastic was scattered, but it's not. The steel cable is all over the place, but it can roll back up into the pulley... I think.

Upon testing the motor disconnected from the cable, it only spins one way, it will not go both. So I guess the motor is shot. The window set up is still together.... ???

I fear the black plastic that keep the cable in line. Can I simply swap a motor and put this all back together?

I could not figure out the pulley setup, but the cable is all over the place inside the car, but nothing is broken.

New motor and it's good or do I really need to worry about the cable?

If it was me I'd be replacing the entire assembly... motor and regulator.

Rockauto has the motor for about $40.00, the motor & regulator assembly is about $65.00.

If the motor turns one way, it is not the motor. This is a 2 wire system. You reverse the + and - leads to change motor. direction. Makes me suspicous of the switch.

I was thinking that, but I was having the same issue with the master switch on the driver door.

Both switches do the same thing, only down. Plus when I had everything apart today I tried it again, same thing.... then it QUIT working all together. I think the motor finally gave up.

My concern is getting this mess back together. I don't know if I can simply buy a motor can get it all back or because the cable is now separated from the plastic I am screwed. :confused:
 
If the cable is not intact from end to end, the regulator is likely bad. Each end should end at the glass mount. If you can get a regulator with motor, that may be your best bet.

The cable is solid. It's in track amongst the door, but the pulley has nothing in it. Like I have to wrap the cable around the pulley again some how.

I am so confused about this cable setup. :confused:
 
When the panthers get higher miles on them the regulators wear internally so the cable drags. The drag creates a lot of resistance & the motor is not strong enough to raise the window. It will go down with gravity assist but not up.

A friend bought a CVPI at auction and 1st thing I had to do for him was fix 3 inop windows. All 3 were just worn out regs. 3 new motor/reg assms = all working.

When motor or reg go bad, replace assem like FBM said. You are throwing your $$$ in the ****-can if you don't. If you just replace the motor or reg, 2 months later you are tearing it apart to replace the opposite part. Double labor & more $ spent.

If the motor runs 1 way it is good. All that happens is reverse polarity to change direction. The windows use an extremely basic circuit to operate. Diagnose with a test light or DVOM and save yourself the hassle & expense of swapping parts to fix.

How in the world is the window motor still good if it only works one way? The motor was completely disconnected from everything except it's power supply. Then it quit working all together.

I'm still confused. I think I need to replace everything.
