New LCM needs "programming"?

Had the ride in the shop today getting a quick once-over before I sell her.

I have one of the "custom" LCM's with the heavy duty relay. Had never gotten around to installing. Asked the shop if they would do it for me.

The report came back that it would take 2 hours of labor (at $99 per) because the LCM would need to be "programmed" once it went in?

WTF? This is a Ford dealership. A big one. An "SVT Dealer."

What are they talking about?
 
If you're talking about the relay mod for when the factory on-board one goes, there was no programming needed, just need to carefully de-solder the original relay, solder in wires and connect the relay.
For a professional, should not be more than an hour's worth of labor.

:lol::lol: love dealers. Go under your dash and switch em yourself, it'll take maybe 5 minutes. The hardest part of the entire thing is getting the plugs out and in without being able to see.
 
Two Hours??? Needs programming??? Total B/S...

Take your personal lubricant, cause you are gettin' screwed royal... Sounds like the whole shop is gonna pay you a visit...
 
No programming, it is a passive device. I swapped out the one in my wife's car, took about 15 minutes. Move the seat back, tilt the front all the way down and the rear up, recline the back. If the pedals work, move them close to the floor (wife's don't work so it was a bit more difficult). You may want to disconnect the battery now (I didn't, but the lights did some funky stuff while the electrical connections were swapped). Lay upside down in the seat. Disconnecting the electrical connectors is the hardest part, I think there are 3 of them. Pull the screws out, I believe there are also 3 screws in it. Then slide the module toward the firewall and upward to free it from the bracket. Reverse to install the new one, being careful to keep the connectors from getting trapped (I had to remove/reinstall the new one because the connectors were "lost").
 
LCM Removal:

The LCM is about the size of a brick and is located just to the right of the steering column, in front of the gas pedal.

There are 3 electrical connectors on the LCM.

Remove the bottom two connectors by depressing the tab and pulling on the connector.

Remove the 2 mounting screws with a 7mm nut driver or socket.

Push the LCM towards the gas pedal while rotating it up towards the roof. Once it’s free of the bracket, pull the back of the LCM down towards the floor.

You should now be able to release the last electrical connector.

Just reverse the steps for reinstallation.

No programming needed. It's a swap out operation.
