No Hi beams

All of a sudden last night after I went through a car wash, on the way home I flicked on the Hi beams only to find complete darkness?? When I got home I tried turning the car off and trying again and still nothing. The tail lights stayed on and low beams as well as fog work. I have changed the lights over to HID except for the fogs. This is the first time I've had any problems with them. I tried today thinking maybe something got wet but still no Hi beams. I havn't tried the fuses yet. I thought if anyone has had the same problem I might find some direction. Thanks and merry Christmas!!
 
Might be your LCM. Contact Fastblackmerc. He can repair yours or send you one that is already repaired. He'll tell you what he needs.:)
 
Might be the LCM... might not. Usually if the headlight relay inside the LCM goes bad you still have Hi beams but no Lo beams. Try tapping the LCM, it's located just to the right of the steering column, right above the OBD II port.

What kind of HID kit did you install? Might be a relay or some wiring for the HIDs.
 
Type of HID's

Hi Fastblackmerc. They are HID Xenon. 6000K, 9004-3, 9007-3, 2 ballasts and a controler. Bought from EBay from a place in Montreal, I think. I understand you have a kit to change over the fogs. Should I PM you for a price with shipping? Thank you for your help.

Did you check the high beams after you installed them, Not all HID headlight kits have high beams
 
My standard HID kit will not do anything when pulling hi beams lever towards you, and headlights will turn off when pushing the hi beam lever to stay on. Sounds normal unless you bought the hi/lo kit.

These are the HID headlights kits currently available:

  1. Single HID bulb - Lo beams only - requires 2 ballasts
  2. Dual bulb - HID Lo beam, halogen Hi beam - requires 2 ballasts
  3. Single bulb HID with a solenoid to move the bulb up & down for Hi & Lo beams - requires 2 ballasts and a relay assembly
  4. Dual bulb HID - HID bulbs for Hi & Lo beam - requires 4 ballasts, one per bulb

IHMO....

#1 Why even get these because there in no Hi beams.
#2 Although there is a Hi beam you are defeating the purpose of installing HIDs.
#3 Cost effective although the solenoid can stop working leaving you with no Hi beams.
#4 The best solution although it will cost up to 4 times more than any of the previous kits. You also need space to install 2 ballasts per side.
 
My kit was the Hi Low and was working well. I installed them in the summer and everything was OK till a week ago when I hit the Hi beams and nothing? This is why I don't know what happened.. I checked the connections and everthing is fine however, I have yet to check any fuses.. My unit has the HI/LOW bulbs with 2 ballasts and a controler and ya... They weren't cheap..

If both Hi beams don't work I'd guess it's the controller.

If the Lo beams work then the ballasts are OK.

It would be unusual for the solenoid part of both bulbs to stop working at the same it. It could happen, but I'd doubt it.

Nice post.
I would suggest #2 as the best. If you are using the high beams to flash people or on a dark stretch here and there, I would hate to have to wait for the bulb to reach operating temps to be bright. Also, it is not good for HID bulbs and ballasts to flash them on and off quickly. Oh, and only 2 ballasts total, so cheapest solution.
 
So if I have used my high beams like 6 times in the last 8+ years and switching over to HID's makes the low beams way better than I have now #2 would be the way to go?

Also what wattage and or lumens would be NOT obnoxious to others?

Never really cared about HID's till lately and contemplating doing the whole car at once.

I know 100% squat about HID.

^ Bob, I went with option #3 because I didn't want to lose out on hi beam functionality. Honestly, it is not even worth it, the beam would go up only a tad bit, not even noticeable to oncoming traffic I don't think. So when I bought a kit for my daily, I went with option #1. Costs about $25 plus shipping, and works great. I ended up removing the hi lo kit and using regular HID bulbs in the Marauder. I'm not sure if there is a #2 option for us, or how much it would be.

I would suggest no higher than 6000K, preferably 5000. Also, I would stick to 35watt. Plenty much light output over *****y halogen without needing axillary power, risking melting something in your housing, and blinding people since we don't have projectors in our cars (We technically shouldn't be placing HIDs in our housings because of this...but since the surround is black, there is not much excess glare created, like it is on my grand marquis.)

Personally I'd go with #3 or #4.

#3 since the bulb is already on and the built in solenoid physically moves the bulb there is no waiting for the bulb to reach operating temp.

#4 Is the most expensive and there is no mechanical parts to break down.

For driving I'd recommend 35w bulbs in either 5K or 6K. Remember the higher the color temperature the lower the light output. Good comparison of the different HID color temperatures.

FYI... I've had the dual bulb / 4 ballast setup in my MM for 4 years and have never had a problem. I never get flashed when the Hi's are on.

Solved!! It was a push out on one of the connectors.. I'm back in business!! Thanks all for the input.
