No love for Marauders in Long Island

I do have to say that there were quite a lot of people around my car and asking me all sorts of questions about it.
Some people said that they were going to buy a Marauder but the price scared them away, some people are kicking themselves for not getting one, and I think I may have turned a few people into future owners! Then I get the people that have no clue what the Marauder is and with these people come the stupid questions. :censor:
Six times I was asked where I bought my rims, I was asked what shop installed my dual exhaust, and the dumbest question came from a guy in his 30's who was looking directly at my engine and still asked how many lbs of boost does the factory Supercharger put out :shake:
Even when I came in the show, one judge was going to put me in a modified class until the judge standing next to him told him that my car is a Marauder and that's how they look stock.
I really do need to represent this car because there are so many people that have no clue what they are looking at.

Dont lose the faith ( I almost did )...Every person I met and talked with about my car was genuinely impressed with her and in some way said that FoMoCo shouldnt have let the project die...Keep jamming the Marauder down the rest of hotrod America's throat !

:2thumbs: sent them to Marauder 101 school with a smile

Holy cow that would make me so frustrated! I hope you get to a show where people appreciate what you bring and your efforts. make the drive worthwhile :)

And speaking of, and at the risk of seriosly annoying people, can I ask another stupid question? WHERE are everyone finding out about all these car shows? I am in Albany, but I'd have driven to this one, that one, the other one, even to LOSE to an S/S just to be IN one of these shows and maybe hang with another Frustrated MM owner! Seriously, I am always reading about these AFTER they're over, is there some sort of web site where all the car shows are listed? Am I the only one that doesn't know where these things are in advance enough to drive there? I really really feel like the retarded cousin locked in the attic on this one, like I'm the only one not "in the know" but I cannot figure out where people are hearing about these things. I want to fix my car up with every mod I can think of, in some sort of logical order instead of Willy Nilly, and go to these shows all year round when I can, spreading the MM Gospel to the Heathens ... like, I'm planning a pilgrimage to Kansas City to the Church of F.I.T. some day and I'd love to be able to plan what car shows would be after that or before that, etc. I'd like to spend the winter entering shows anywhere there isn't snow for 3 or 4 months (texas? Arizona? Can one plan enough shows to enter that they don't have to go back into the attic where Katrina dumped them in Albany?) but I can't figure out where to get a list of shows so I can plan these things. The internet and google have NOT been kind, like, I've been googling "car shows" and this one that Blackened300a went to on LI is like, 3 hours from me or so and I never got a google on it. I admit, I'm not a "car" guy and am new to all this, but I can't imagine how everyone's "in the know" on these things all the time while I can't even find ONE near me (until it's over, by reading on here) and now I find out about 3 of them, plus some private meets, plus some arranged "track" events, all in the last month and I haven't found about one of them until they've been over. I finally figured out how to 'subscribe' to threads on this thing, so maybe that will help a bit, but there has to be more I'm missing, right? Any help will be most appreciated, and again, for those of you rolling your eyes and making the "oh god not another newbie" face, I know, I know, and I understand how stupid I sound, but this is all so new to me. I apologise, really i do. Thanks very much in advance for any help. I want to make my Marauder a real showy car, I have laid out plans for all the "looks" and although I need a lot of advice for the "guts" mods, eventually I know that I can get all the help I need here, everyone is so helpfull and the spirit of community is really felt here, more even than on my one other forum I'm in, that I know I will learn steadily what I need to know, but this car show thing really has me frustrated and there's only so much good weather left until the evil, evil snow begins to fly again. Thanks so much ...

Try this link ..... http://www.carshownews.com/national/NY.htm It lists alot of car shows and such in the New York area.

I did an AltaVista search on "car club" +"car show" + albany

Check and see if there are any local car clubs, mustang associations, cruiser organizations in your area.

OLD THREAD ALERT!!!!! Its my old thread I guess that makes it ok

I took over a year off of the local car show circuit with the Marauder until yesterday. I decided to give it another go and spent my entire Saturday detailing the car. As always, over 600 cars in attendance and Im the only Marauder in the field. I figured with my new cam covers and some other dress-up mods I could do better then my usual 3rd and 4th place in these judged shows. I had 8 cars competing with me in my class, A blue Mach1, orange Z28 SS, orange Trans-am, silver mustang convertable, 08 Impala SS, 2 late model T-birds and myself. The two F-bodies and one T-bird finished 5th and 4th, the convertible mustang tied for third with the other T-bird, I tied for 2nd with the mach1 and the same guy who just trailers his POS Impala SS to the show took 1st just like he did back when he bought the car new in 07 and took it to shows.
Its hard to compete against a new car with a 6yr old one. Im just happy to take second in this show.
A lot of people admired the car and complimented it often so I was winning over the people more then the judges. Even when I drove in I was told by the guy handing out the tickets that he loved my car. I wish he was the judge. :(

This guy next to me in the 64 Impala SS which I thought was flawless and sure winner only took 3rd.

Congrats on a 2nd place finish Paul. :trophy:

I know how frustrating it can be when you put so much time into detailing the car. Some of these shows are hard to figure out. I think some of them have their buddies as judges or they are members of the sponsoring club. Others are people's choice ballots. Who knows how that will turn out. Trying to figure out what works in one show ... doesn't necessarily translate to a win in another show.

I have stopped being disappointed in not bringing home a trophy and try to just be content with showing the car, talking it up and hopefully educating some of the masses on what a special car the MM is.

This is why Im putting together our own trophy catagories in Carlisle. This get all Marauder owners involved. Im still working out the details.

A 2008 Chevy Impala??? Are you serious? There is nothing flashy about the new Impalas...OMG...that 64 is a classic...I dont see anyone looking back to an 08 Imapala and saying that was one helluva car...

Paul, we all know the beautiful condition you keep your car in. That, coupled with the limited number of Marauders, should be more than enough to take 1st place in that line up. 2nd place.......there's not much you can do about ignorance. You have nothing to apologize for.

Congrats Paul!!

I dont care much for the "car club / spectator judged" shows. I like the "cruise in / hang out" shows. I've been out of the shows for a couple of years. The Marauder will be waxed and detailed this week and have some naintenance done next week. Then its off to the shows with the kids to catch up with some old friends I have not seen in awhile. CAM meets too!

It really is a crapshoot depending on the show itself. I was stunned to take a 2nd place trophy at the UPS show in Laurel, MD back in October 2006. There were over 1,500 cars registered and about 29 classes of cars. I came in 2nd between two Ford GT supercars (one was silver with white stripes and the other was white with blue stripes). When they called out my name and car, I had to look at Joe Walsh and Mike Poore to see if I heard correctly. Having my MM between two $150,000 cars was "priceless".

Joe took a 1st place with his Cobra and Mike took a 3rd place with his Mustang Feature car "Sunshine". It was a very good day for CAM at that show.

However, I have gone to carshows with only about 50 cars and walked away empty handed. Like I said, it is hard to figure out.

I don't go to the car shows for the competition any more.
I know what I got and I am proud of it when it is looking its best.

There aren't too many ONE OWNER cars with 100k miles on them
that look like they were just driven out of a showroom these days.....

Best of all is that I get to drive it WHENEVER I WANT !!!

I go there so I can hand out napkins to the droolers...

What is there to admire about new impalas?? The guy never drives it, just goes to car shows with it? Sounds like a tool..ITS FWD what is so special about it!?!:mad2:

It goes by who you know and how often you spend your $20 at the door. I talked to this guy at a oldsmobile show last year and he compared my car to his and telling me that he has the corvette LS2 with a chip that gives him 450hp :rolleyes:
I then told him to wait for me out on the main drag and I want to see what 450hp can do against my measly 300. He laughed and slinked away like the tool he is. :shake:
Car shows bring out all the characters.

Showing the Marauder

Hi all,

I have entered my Marauder in four (regular) car shows. The first one I received a Top 25 award. (I had the only Marauder.) The second one I got a third place. (I had the only Marauder.) The third one I got a second place. (I had the only Marauder.) The fouth one I got a first place. (I had the only Marauder.) I also had the only car in that class. :D Of course the best car show I have ever shown my Marauder in was at Marauderville IV. There were 61 other Marauders there! Black Beauty has been retired from show duty while she was on top. :)
