Overheating

I really hope I'm not screwed. My car overheated when I got off the freeway the other day. It was running fine until I got off and then I started chugging. I noticed the temp gage was pegged so I shut it down immediately. I'm just hoping I didn't cause any damage like a head gasket because I don't know how long it was hot since there are no warning lights.

I'm led to believe it's a thermostat bewcause it was hot on one side and outside temperature on the other. I replaced the t stat but it is still overheating. I think I didn't bleed it right. Can someone send me a link to a good "cooling system bleed how to"? I know they are out there but I looked and couldn't find one.

Thanks Fellas!

You probably have air in the system and your MM needs to be burped. I thought there was a Sticky on how to do it but I didn't find it.

There are lots of threads on this topic.

I know the burping is a common problem and I was told there was lots of threads for this but i can't find them either. Anybody have a good link to one??

When i had that problem turned out to be a bad heater core from ford, they replaced it under warranty.

I don't think it'll be the t-stat, but do a proper burp on the car just to make sure.

Does your heater work?

if the heater core was gone your windshield would fog up and you would smell antifreeze get your cooling system pressure tested and you,ll see where the problem/leak is
just pray it aint a head gasket

Variable speed electric fan. I lost a fan motor while towing in the summer heat long distance once, when I got off the freeway a little hot became extremely overheated. That was my Grand Marquis with a two speed electric fan though.

My Marauder's original cooling fan blade cracked. With the imbalance, the fan would try to run, then quit. I actually used the fan blade from the old Marquis fan that had burned its motor. Same blade.

Speaking of fans mine just started to run for a few seconds and then stop.It also is noisy like a blade is hitting something but with the car cooled down I inspected the blades as best as I can with it still in the car and found nothing wrong and tried spinning it by hand and again found nothing wrong.
I removed the connector and tried jumping it from the battery but couldn't get it to run or even get a spark when connecting and disconnecting the wires.
Can someone tell me how to properly test/jump a fan with it in the car please.
I'm guessing a winding came loose in the fan motor or the bearing is bad as it seems the blades aren't hitting anything, but the fan spins easily,so....?
(yeah,I had Ford shop manuals for my other Marauder and gave everything to Vinson when he bought it).

My fan blade failure was a crack on the outside ring, connecting the blades. Look closely at that ring.

Has anyone found a a larger radiator that will fit for are MM's.
At wot and 106 outside it will over heat.
Sure would like one.

I would like to know also, on the radiator. My experience was that the fan quit after about 75k. Ring broke.

I've only seen 2 radiators for the Marauder.
25" and 27" core.
They are both SINGLE cores.
I haven't seen any multi cores or HD Radiators.

We share the same cooling system as the CV/GM/TC and from what I've been told
it takes A LOT to overheat these cars !!!
We supposedly have the best cooling system Ford has ever designed.
The engine supposedly has a temp sensor in each head that is monitored
by the ECM. If the head gets too hot, the ECM can alternately shut off
injectors to pump air into cylinders to cool the engine.
You won't know it or feel it because the ECM balances everything

Hate to just jump in someones else thread but the needle from the cold seems to go all the way up to hot when i have the car in park and just sitting there but then when i drive off the needle goes back to the normal temp. would like to know if this is a big deal or not. thanks in advance.

It's possible you messed the engine up but not likely. I had the same exact thing didn't notice I was pegged at 'H' and inadverantly reved to redline it once like that too. eeek. Turned out to be the thermostat. This was at 50k. Engines a hummer. It was fine. Shutdown and wait for cool was the right action.

Same crap on my 01 Subaru Forester and it pushed the defective design head gaskets over the ledge. $2400 later at least I don't need to worry about the timing belt.
