power window problems

The passenger window on my marauder has started acting up. It always goes down no problem but occasionally it won't go back up. If I leave it alone for a while it goes right back up with no problem. I have tried unplugging & reconnecting the window switch when this happpens. Is it a switch or window motor issue? I am thinking that the window motor might be on it's last legs. I have an extended ford warranty so it will be covered but I was curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Sounds like a prob we had with a van that came it. The motor was going bad, it would overheat blowing the internal fuse not allowing the window to go back up. You let it sit and it would go up 1/2 way then stop. let it sit again for a few more minutes and it would finish going all the way up. Replaced the motor and it didn't do it anymore.

I had a similar problem within 3 months of getting my MM. The problems was that the window was binding. The dealer tried to lubricate the guides on two different occasions but that only helped for a couple days and then the problem was back. The final cure was re-aligning the window guides. Seems that this is a common problem on ALL of the Panther vehicles including the MM, GM, CV and TC. Do a search on "window guides" since many of the early buyers were discovering this same problem back in 2003 and 2004.
 
According to one of my techs who has a CrnVic Sport it's the channels the windows ride in. Ford changed the design to ease the binding that wears out the motors and regulators. Of course this part isn't covered by ESP, if you have it, but they'll replace your regulators and motors againg and again.

You also try realigning the regulators as mentioned here, too.

Do the redesigned channels fit our cars or only later models? If they do fit, does anyone have a Part Number of the redesigned channel? My pass side window is binding and runs slow.

My friend has a 99 CV that is also binding on both sides. My old 99 CV worked great for the past 8 years, maybe alighment is the only culprit in motor/channel longevity.
 
If the window will not roll down. Slam the door a few times and it will prob unbind.

Once you get it up try slaming it a few times.
 
Thanks to everyone for the info. I'm gonna replace the drivers side window switch first & see if that fixes the problem. If not then I'll take it to the dealer for warranty repairs.
 
My Passenger Side Window Will "stick" Occasionally. It Seems To Be The Driver Side Switch. Sometimes It Won't Work And Then It Does. Can Never Duplicate The Problem At The Dealer. I Saw A Thread For Repairing The Switch ( Just Like The Hvac Modual).
The Switch Usually Goes Bad From Rain Water Or The Bad Contact Underneath.
 
I had that happen to me twice in the heat of day. I just had my master switch replaced (again) because the auto down feature would only work at night.

BTW, I did what sailsmen did to a friend's MM and it worked.
 
I had the same problem over the summer - after parking out in the heat all day, first the driver's window would stop working 'till the whole car cooled down for up to a day, then the front passenger started doing the same thing! Sometimes slaming the door or banging on the inner door panel near the motor would get it going. I finally broke down and removed both inner front panels and checked all electric conections, sprayed same w/WD40 and lubed the riser tracks. It worked fine thru the rest of the summer - I have to see how it works next summer!
 
I'm not sure what revision these parts are. The F8AZ prefix does indicate a 1998 type part. It is possible that if the windows run get distorted by a window going up and down true it could deform the guide. I need to find the TSB myself and see what it really says. I would imagine that after replacing the window regulator and properly adjusting it if you still have a slow moving window they might want you to inspect the guide for deformation. I will post the TSB info when I find it, along with the window adjustment instructions.

OLD THREAD ALERT.

Is it possible then that the master switch (drivers door) is causing a rear window to stick and not roll down? I banged on the window a couple times two weeks ago while messing with the switch and was able to get it to roll down then up a couple times that day. Tried it last night and its stuck up again, will not roll down. Lights dimming and volt gauge shows the switch is working, both at the door and master switch. When it rolled down, it did sound louder, as if it was out of track almost.
 
I had to replace the motors to both right and left front windows shortly after the warranty ran out. :violin:

Had it done by my local Lincoln /Mercury dealer. They had to order 4 motors from Ford to get 2 that actually worked. :puke:

That's correct. Even direct from the Ford factory 50% of the new replacement motors were defective. :mad2:

Good news is that they have been working fine ever since. :beer:
 
I've had to replace two regulators recently. Had a similar experience as HBTMD - 2 out of 3 were defective! But yes, once replaced no troubles.
