Question: What is the price of Motorcraft oil in your area?

I've noticed as of late the price of Motorcraft oil (all weights) from the local auto parts stores is in the rang of $3.69 per qt. and have seen the 5 qt container going for ~ $17.00.

Here's the secret:
I was informed by a friend to check out the prices at "Wally World" and my jaw dropped when I found out their prices. Per qt here in So. Fl. it's going for $2.77 and get this, the 5 qt. container is going for $11.50 (5w20, 5w30). I wasn't too pleased that they don't have 10w30 in the 5 qt container which is what I use in the CVPI, but I'll refrain from getting bent out of shape for what they are selling the single qts for. So if you are in charge of setting WallMart prices (In best Jedi voice) "You didn't read a thing"
Check your local WM stores.

Wally World pretty much tells their suppliers what they will pay for stuff, then they sell it low to the consumer. There's some scuttlebut that the stuff they sell is of lower quality than normal because of this, but meh.

If they have it when I go in there, I buy all the 820s filters and 5 quart jugs, the stores around here usually only have 2-3 of each. IIRC the filters are in the $2-3 range as well.

Sorry to spoil your fun, but that's not a secret; MC 5W-20 in the 5-qt jug has been $11.50 at Wally's for years now...

That's absolutely false. I can't speak for every product Wally sells, but MC oil and filters are the identical pieces you would buy at a Ford dealer or at AutoZone, O'Reilly's, etc...

I won't buy filters there cus they only have Fram.

Somebody did a big test on filters and found that Fram were the worst you can buy.

I get the PureOne filters because they have the grippy coating that makes them easy to put on.

^^My Frams have the grip coating but I didn't know they were the worst:mad:!!

In most cases it's true, that is how Home Depot and Lowes have lower prices on plumbing and tools etc.... they will have lower quality produts you have to go by the manufacturers SKU number however it's a bit more difficult to lower the quality of oil and filters, it's much cheaper to make millions of the same filter then to have a separate line for discount stores.

Motorcraft oil filters are made by Purolator. Don't use the Super Tech oil filters or
your lifters will rattle. All the Walmarts carry the Motorcraft oil filters here and Purolators can be found at Pepboys for
around $3.19 ea.

If you listen carefully you'll notice a griding noise when you start your engine.
That's the cams starved for oil. use an oil filter that has a good anti drain back valve. FL820S

Advance auto doesn't sell motorcraft oil filters (i don't think, I stay in the fram section)....I'm changing my oil today. I see ima have to make a switch.

Where can I see the results of "somebodys" test?

I have used fram tough guard filters for years and my last car made it 260k miles before I sold it and the engine had plenty of life left:D

I dont know about anyone else but I will stick with what has given me good results.

Major brands that are sold elsewhere will be of the same quality as they are when they are sold at the other stores, it'd only be the (more or less) wal-mart produced stuff that one could argue is of lower quality. That's why I don't mind buying name-brand electronics there but avoid buying clothing there.

I took a business law course last semester and my professor is a lawyer who's actually dealt in many cases with Wal-Mart. He's found that Wal-Mart's modus operandi is to make deals with manufacturers with stipulations that they be sold the merchandise at a certain value and that after a number of years, for every year they must sell an ever-increasing percentage of their stock to Wal-Mart, more or less until they sell all of their stock exclusively to them. There are a number of companies that went out of business or were essentially forced to move production out of country to stay afloat.
