Steering shaft is binding, been suggested to replace part of shaft from a shop friend. Ford of course kind of crazy on price. Any suggestions on replacement parts?
Aftermarket can be a crap shoot. How do you know they're decent? Have they performed well for 150K miles? Ford is proven. Unless there is a known design problem or you are performing an upgrade, I like to stick with the original parts.
At 100K miles my original steering shafts are fine. I checked them but did not replace them during my recent suspension rebuild. Of course, they weren't snowed on or salted either.
Although most people are shocked by how clean the underside of my car is, my steering shaft is rusted through like hell. Try doing several good soaks, but it is definitely a shot at 120,000.
