Inspired by a conversation with RoyLPita and http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=52994, I thought I'd share a quick story about one of the silly things I've done to baby my MM.
Mine's not a showroom queen; she's a daily driver, but I still try to keep her clean as much as I can. Accidentally getting diverted onto a gravel road out in the country makes me angry. Living in Wisconsin, and not having a garage, I keep her in a storage unit from Thanksgiving to April Fool's Day, and I'll scramble to duck into someone's garage if there is threat of snow outside of those months.
I was apartment hunting two Saturdays ago, well into April, when snow is rare but there's still a touch of salt on the roads. I found a place I liked, which was vacant and had a garage, and filled out the application and was handing it back to the property owner. I knew that there was a more than negligible chance of snow that night, so my MM fever surfaced and as I handed her the application, I asked her if the garage space was also vacant, which I knew it was. She confirmed, and I told her that regardless of whether or not I got the apartment, I would pay her $20 to let me park the MM there for 4 or 5 days while the snow fell, was salted, and melted and washed away. She gave me an incredibly skeptical look, and I stuttered to explain that I keep it out of the snow and salt, but she still thought I was a whack job. Regardless, that day, I handed her an application and $20 and she handed me a garage door opener. I ended up getting the place before our 4/5 day verbal agreement was up and I'm moved in a few weeks later.
So technically, my Marauder has lived here longer than I have!
As a funny aside, in the back and forth phone calls and visits to the place over the course of that weekend and following week, some of the first questions my new landlord asked me were:
"Are you a cop?"
"Are you a drug dealer?"
"Is that car stolen?"
So, have you done anything so silly? How did people react to your bizarre behavior?
