Vegas Marauders

I know that us West Coasters have loved the idea of a Marauderville that is within a reasonable driving distance. But asking the East Coasters to drive that far is like asking why us West Coasters haven't driven to the east coast for Marauderville (I know Rod flew to visit and I toyed with the idea of Indy if it was held there again since I'm from there). I can only see this being a West Coast version of Marauderville, despite the attractive venues that draw people from all round the US and the world. I could see a smaller attendance but some really cool things in the West. Vegas, San Fran, casinos, ghost towns, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, USS Hornet, Queen Anne haunted cruise ship in LA, etc.

Having a regional event in Vegas has been discussed before but so far no one has gotten any traction.

Absolutely. I totally understand the reality of the drive for most people. I drove across the US twice just this year, unfortunately. Not a lot of West Coast Marauder members are going to drive across the country for a Thurs-Sun event. It's just not going to happen.

so my idea is to think outside the box. Why can't the West Coast enjoy an event like Marauderville?

1) Plan this as a regional West coast event. Maybe we don't call it Marauderville, but maybe we plan it around the same dates as the East Coast event and we get members on board from California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, etc... (Louisville started as a small regional event and look where it is now)

2)Market this as a Vacation Destination. Have folks add in some extra time for travel. Arrive early. Make it a week-long event. Enjoy the sights and sounds.Obviously you're not going to get everyone on board this way, but if you make this more of a vacation rather than a car meet up, you might be able to have perspectives change.

Also there's a lot of Midwest Marauders in Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc that Vegas might be equa-distant to them as an event on the East Coast.

Like I said, I am willing to help make this a reality and heck, even if it's just a bunch of us meeting in September in Vegas, I think that would be a start.

in west coast forum there was some info and a member who knew a great "car" friendly hotel etc. I agree it is a load, but well worth it. If we can get 20 cars... would that be a success???

May or later. Vegas. We can create fun type caravans from all directions... as all roads lead to vegas!!!

Further to this discussion, I am more than happy and willing to make a Vegas Meet-Up happen. I was discussing Vegas as a possible Marauderville location with another member and that sparked the initial brainstorming. Hence why I am discussing it now.

It's possible, yeah that logistics just aren't "there" for a West Coast "official" Marauderville, but I don't think that should stop us from planning and having a meet in Vegas regardless.

there are new faces, new members on the board eager to make the trip and meet up. I can see how far I can go in making Vegas Marauderville a possibility but if not, I am still going to work on trying to make a Marauder Meet up in Vegas a reality next year.

Lots to do in Vegas. Glitter Gulch, Mob Museum, The Gun Store (fire a Tommy Gun!), the Titanic Exhibit, etc. The Bonnie and Clyde Death Car, Liberace Museum, Boulder Dam just to name a few.

Just south of Vegas into Arizona are also a few things worth seeing, like Hackberry, Chloride, Rhyolite, Cactus Joe's in Oatman (& Oatman Hotel), Kingman (Hualapai Mountain Park, Powerhouse Visitor Center and Route 66 Museum), Ed's Camp in McConnico, Grand Canyon Caverns, Truxton Frontier Cafe, and so on on route 66 but then we get too far out of our way.

I think something like this would be fun. Example spend a day in Vegas and the next day drive to the Grand Canyon. But wheat ever is decided, I'll be looking forward to it.

Just like this. I am planning on moving out there. Depending when that happens I can help if you like.

Not sure it's even a thing but do airlines and car rental places do group rates? Probably not many Easties are going to drive but they might fly if rates were affordable.

I say we "buddie up" via east/west, and then they'd be in a Marauder :).

Besides, you taxi in Vegas, unless we are convoying somewhere--and then they be in with us.

I would be psyched to pick up a member at the airport in my MM... And I'd be equally psyched to be picked up in one!!!

That's a very cool idea to buddy up, I love the idea of Vegas, i would love to drive the 3,400 miles to get there.

If the drive was not possible It would be cool to fly in and be picked up in a Marauder, then taxi locally and buddy up for rides in other marauders with locals for tours etc.

I would also love to pick up west coast members and tour them around in my marauder if the event was in the east.

The fly in and buddy up with a local member is one of the best ideas I have heard of,

Thank you

I think it has been done before... But I think it should become an integral part of ALL MM functions. Then we could fly in, and still "feel at home" driving around etc. I will take on the "Buddy-Up" ride share program!

I would gladly let 1 other person ride with me, just follow the "House Rules", no Smoking, Eating, Drinking, and use the door handles when grabbing the door from the outside, if you want to put your hands and fingers all over something, then become a Masseuse.

I drove mine and had a blast! You may want to rethink it will be fun to have a mass of cars there. :D
